Take it from an old, soft, moist hand: This is nothing new. Go back to MRR's of the 90s and you read lavish praise of Nashville Pussy, Hellacopters, and so on. For a few months Lord High Fixers and the Humpers were the best bands ever. Gravity bands or DC in the 90s. Rip Off Records. Go further back to mid to late 80s and the Aussie & Kiwi stuff released them. Some great, classic, some not so. Homestead Records. Live Skull. So much 80s hardcore that is meh at best. And on and one back to 70s hard rock classics that Back to Comm and others would hype up...and which you thought you needed to have until you plunked $20 on an Akarama boot and were stuck with a second rate midwestern rock band. Keep going back, read non-industry magazines from whatever era, even nostalgic ones like Kicks, and there is always a fair amount of hype. Time and distance are the only real cures (unless you are talking about reissues - and erick, i agree that the Endtables are a one song band). And sometimes that time and distance works for the band rather than against it. Like, the Humpers were actually a good band. Perhaps not worthy of the hype but there are a handful of killer singles there. Strange as it may seem, when I was a teen, I avoided listening to VU and the Stooges because there was no way they could be as good as people said they were. In those cases, hype was a repellent. But the impulse to react (positively and negatively) to hype (positive and negative, negative in the form of mass reaction to hype, which is in itself hype or hype-like [see Vivian Girls as a perfect case of pos & neg hype]) is the thing to guard against, not the hype itself. You have no control over they hype, you have control over your reaction. Personally, with music, the only opinions that matter to me are those of denkinger and Mitch Cardwell. Fuck everyone else.

This is pretty spot-on.

Yeah, I know.  Like a lot of you guys, I've gone from being a genre collector to just wanting all my favorite songs on 45.

I'm not a huge fan or anything, but I do love that song.  And the Aussie 45 version chops about half a minute out of it.

I was the one who told Harry this existed, but the band only found one in their archives.  There's a rumored box of them somewhere in Kansas, which I'm going to try to track down again.

The band (or their management) were using these as office stationery.  I have a note from Jake Euker on the back of one that he sent when I ordered the first EP.  Would like very much to find a pristine copy.

my cats are free to do as they please and i will not teach them that human hands are hands that hit cats, so at most if they really piss me off they might get a squirt of water, but in general they are allowed to go anywhere or do anything they want. 

we got some new cats tonight, siblings again just like peanut and tiger a dozen years ago, here's jimi and morrison.  no, not jim morrison.  thats van morrison,

they were hidden in a back room of the shelter off limits to the public, had been there for some time because they were only available to adopt together, as twins. 

God love yas.  Very handsome kids.

Anybody besides me think the first Sneaky Feelings LP is a wonderful pop disc? Serious Byrds/Television/Felt vibe on that one, and the acceleration on "Won't Change" gives me Chills.  Damn.
