Music Shit / Re: favorite velvet undergound album
« on: January 01, 2010, 10:06:34 PM »
Velvet Underground is the reason I started listening to decent music. When I was 15 I listened to nothing else, eventually I started listening to records produced by Cale which weaned me of my narrow obsession. Although the velvet underground dominated my musical taste in High School. Whenever we had to write something about art or something we were interested in In would inevitably come up with some drivel about them. For German class I gave a presentation on the band, and the teacher let me play Heroin, got some confused looks from my classmates.

Best album is White Light/White heat. Sister Ray is the animosity between Cale and Reed put into sound.  But I think that the band that made the first two albums was a very different band than the one that made the self titled and loaded. Musically a lot less interesting.

The Rebel's site is no longer up. Is there anywhere else that lists his tour dates?

Cities / Re: Amsterdam

I think distortion is open from Tuesday till Saturday, most independent stores here are closed on Sundays and Mondays.

Het Fort is one of the best bookstores in the country. They sell a really wide range of things. Basically anything pertaining to what can loosely be described as radical leftist ideas, both theoretical works and historical descriptions. And not just only positive accounts.  It's not like they're dogmatics who only sells books that fit in their world view. The only things they don't sell are works outright advocating discrimination based on race or gender, but as far as I know there is no store in the Netherlands that sells that.
They also have a fairly good selection of books related to music. The last time I was there they were selling Mark E Smith's autobiography, the two collections of Lester Bangs writings and lots of other stuff.

My dad spent about 5 minutes at a Kinks gig in 66 when he was 17. He was there to pick up a friend of his, said he wanted to get out as fast as possible because it was too crowded and loud.

At the release party the guy at the merch table said there are some songs on the cd that are not on the lp. I didn't get a chance to buy the record yet, but I have the box set. Comparing the tracklist of the cds to the lps tracklist on discogs  it does seem like there is a slight difference between the two in the live show (disc/lp 2, #1 is studio stuff).

Wasn't able to stream it, but that could be cause of my scrapheap laptop. Downloading worked fine.

The Worm site mentions a 2 lp comp. Is this the same content wise as the black and white statement box set?

If you contact the guy that runs the Nederpunk blog about this he might post something about it. The only emailadress I've been able to find is from 2005 though. Hope it still works ksmit7 (at) xs4all (dot) nl

Non-Music Shit / Re: Skin Allergies
« on: March 23, 2009, 10:08:13 AM »
I have the same a similar problem. In addition to developing a rash when my skin comes into contact with metal or putting on a headphone I also have a constant rash on my face. On bad days I like like an extra out of a b movie, but usually it's not too bad.  I've had it for about 5 years. I went to see a doctor about it a few weeks ago and now I;m going to be tested for allergies next week.
I was advised to use this until the cause is discovered http://www.locoid.com/

The eczema wiki is fairly extensive.

Some where as or more powerful than their husbands like Imelda. Others become victims of their Husband like Stalin's wife.
Regimes that use heavy ideological rhetoric often portray the wifes as a mother of the nation, like Kim-Il Sungs wife or Ceausescu's. Some share responsibility with their husbands in destroying society. Ceausescu's wife again. Mao's wife Jiang Qing, who also was a big fan of huge spectacles but never managed to pull off anything on the scale of the olympic ceremonies.
