Impact - Solo Odio LP

Really great record, and did you notice the intro that Poison Idea 'borrowed'? (I forget the song titles, will check later)

I've been listening to Crawling Chaos - Gas Chair LP and Sex Machine 7"s a whole lot. Fan of Swell Maps or This Heat would be foolish to ignore em, great band but I've never heard the second album, worth getting?

Also Empire - Expensive Sound LP, such a catchy record that I could easily get obsessed over.

But the last 2 things I had on were A Love Supreme and Victim In Pain. Ying/yang, love vs hate, yadayadayada.

Recently:

THE STAINS: s/t LP - What a scorcher. So glad to finally get a copy.

BGK: Nothing Can Go Wrogn LP. I don't get why this record isn't talked about as much as the others. Full of hits if you ask me. I always think it fits nicely with mid-period PI records, or the underrated PLAGUE (Cleveland) records. In other words, solid and driving mid-to-late '80s HARDcore with slick production, but which wasn't trying to cash in on the crossover boom of the period...Forget Larm, Holland's got the goods (The Ex, Agent Orange, that grrreat Pure Hate 7", blah blah blah)...

SURGERY: Nationwide LP - Another rarely talked about record. I'm a sucker for 2nd tier AmRep shit, but this is genuinely good in my opinion; a bit of early MUDHONEY, a bit of COSMIC PSYCHOS (name dropped in a song no less), all through the standard KILLDOZER/BASTARDS blender...I dunno, I dig it more than plenty of modern 'noise rock' bands who are doing it now with way less flair...

SLIPKNOT: s/t 7" on Rev - Been revisiting this lately. Basically the sound of 'youth crew' kids getting into mid-period COC, so keeping the cringeworthy 'positive vibes' lyrically while bashing out some inept but great shredding. It actually succeeds where a lot of post-COC bands (stuff on the Alchemy roster, like PARANOIA or GUILLOTINE) failed...

IV REICH: Primera Maqueta 2x7" - Maybe my favourite '80s Spanish hc band, after GRB.

JACK BREWER BAND: Rockin Ethereal LP - I'm an apologist for SWA and DC3, so it was probably inevitable I'd like JBB. The thing is, it basically sounds like a watered down late FLAG but with SACCHARINE TRUST vocals. The guy just has a good voice and turn of phrase, and when the music is serviceable-to-great I'm gonna buy in...

RATTUS s/t LP on Rat Cage - My favourite RATTUS release, basically 1983 re-recordings of various earlier songs but done right. Parts are so shambolic and ridiculous, and the sound is so hot with the vocals at a certain pitch that it really hurts your ears at the right volume...I find myself getting more and more attracted to 'tinny' European hardcore as I get older, and beyond the songs (which on here are great) I do think a lot of the appeal is the sonic pleasure I get from listening to this kinda shit (same with early Terveet or Appendix or whatever)...It's all produced in a way that makes you FEEL IT, you know?

JAMES BROWN: Hot Pants LP - One of the 'test records' I've been listening to on my new hi-fi system (first upgrade since I was a teenager, what the fuck have I been doing). My second favourite after The Payback (with the honorary FW & the JBs LP coming third)...

The MANIC 7" has been getting plenty of plays at mine

I'm no 'super fan', but I have been enjoying Dylan's really early stuff lately after getting given a free copy of an LP boot of the '62 Finjan Club set - I really like the version of Let Me Die in My Footsteps, whereas I can take or leave, say, Blowin In The Wind... The same guy gave me a copy of 'Infidels', who knows when I'll listen to it...

I do like the 3 '60s LPs though (Highway through to Blonde), but they ain't flawless.

A lot of people (including myself) loved the previous Double Negative line-up and records (granted I never saw them live), so skepticism is understandable. It's fine to say the new line-up is 1000 times better, but the proof will be in the pudding, so to speak, with the next record. I haven't written them off yet and heard good things live. But my hopes aren't high. Not that my opinion from across the Atlantic matters...

EDIT: In terms of the topic, the new HERPES 7" is pretty great.

Recently:

Motorhead: Rock N Roll LP - Unessential late '80s 'Head that still does the job. The title song, Eat The Rich and The Wolf are highlights.

VA: New Orleans Funk Vol 2 double LP on Soul Jazz - Great comp that might be better than the first volume. Art Neville doing Bo Diddley rules.

Killing Floor: Out of Uranus LP - Like the Groundhogs but funkier. I've got no problem with bongos and/or white men playing funky music...

Howlin' Wolf: The Howlin' Wolf Album LP - 'Psychsploitation' classic, even if he hated it. Glad to get a copy recently. Best version of Evil.

Fang: Landshark LP - One of the best.

Nabat: Scenderemo Nelle Strade 7" - I don't know much about Italian oi!, but the few records I know are great. Need to investigate more.

Golden Dawn: Power Plant LP - Another record I'm fairly new to. Contemporaries with 13th Floor and very similar, perhaps a tad poppier. Great at this time of year.

Dead Wretched: Convicted 7" and Court Martial: No Way Out 7" - Two second tier but still pretty solid UK82 singles.

White Cross: Fascist 7" - Recently got one of those stock copies. I think it shares a certain affinity with Pick Your King, although not quite on the same level. Still great and glad to own it.
