Music Shit / Re: Maximum Rocknroll: DEAD?
« on: January 14, 2019, 04:42:22 PM »
I'd like to think this is just an elaborate April Fool's Joke, but fer crissakes, the fact that print MRR made it to 2019 is a testament to those who do the work. They've stuck to Tim Yo's vision of the zine for eons. Big ups to all the staff and shitworkers and contributors for bustin' ass on a volunteer basis all these decades. Whilst assorted schwanzbags have whined and bellyached about it incessantly for years, it still persists... the very fact that dilbags STILL catch feelings about MRR rules.

Besides the upc code, and issue from 2019 looks not too much different than one from 2009, 1999, or 1989. That said, almost everybody is on their smartphones nowadays- even the punx who don't have $5 to spare for a show or a zine or a whateva.

I didn't know it was still in print.  I'm a bit shocked actually.  I haven't seen it since the 80's.
You're on Termbo, but you haven't seen an MRR in 30 years? How not?

Bad news. MRR is still relevant though-magazines in general, not so much.

That said, I just sent in $45 for a revolving subscription just a few days ago!

Michael Stanley Band reveals the roots of zany Clevo deviancy- sexual harassment, sexual assault, total racial segregation, breaking and entering, and worst of all- distracted driving.

Alotta Youtube comments claim this Joao Cerilo video is the worst ever with it's low-budget computer graphics, confusing story line, substance snorting, and goat milk drinking straight from the teat... but they are wrong. Not only is the song incedible, it features a dude playing a machete!

For anyone that dislikes Chicago: what makes you feel this way?
...the two times I've been... if I could sum it up in one figure it would be an overweight aging guy in thick horn rimmed glasses carrying a tote bag from Record Store Day and talking loudly about Jonathan Richman between bands.  Record stores mostly blow...

Sure thing boss. Mendocino or Asheville or Auckland or wherever you're from rules, right?

Look brah, whoever says Chicago blows  didn't go beyond generic tourist trap BS. Too big to say it sux. Whenever you visit a city, check out the outlying neighborhoods if you want to get a feel of reality.

If you got a chance, check out the neighborhoods- south, north, weat. Devon, Argyle, Humboldt, etc are cool. Go south too- Pilsen, Little Village, Hyde Park, and Hegewisch... don't skip Hegewisch. For real, if you want to see median (REAL) Chicago check out West Lawn, Marquette Park. Don't listen to the h8er, you'll be fine. Get some Garifuna eats on 63rd... and then drive the length of the street. A real tour. In Pilsen the  National Museum of Mexican Art is FREE... Garfield Park Conservatory too- but drop a few bucks in their box.

Chicago Cultural Center  and DePaul Art Museum are always free. Museum of Design, Chicago History, Bridgehouse, and a bunch of others are free certain days.

Food-

Pizza- Danny's- A Pizza Place
Salvadoran- Pupuseria
Potato Tacos- Zacatacos
Vegan- Healthy Substance
Vegetarian Mexican- Indio

Hope you have an ever lovin' blast.

I've been powering through Burning Down The Haus recently, which is the story of East German punk and the fall of the Berlin Wall.

Did you get any of the Kaltfront stuff? I still got a few copies left... only ones available in this hemisphere according to Sonic Jorg

Q-FM-96 - Hometown

Local radio comp from the same bin as above. Worthless apart from the Jetboy track, which is a cool power-pop song with a kinda generic chorus but is sick as hell during the verse.

Those radio station comps almost always have at one (and only one) very good/great track. In order to flesh out a Honolulu or Omaha or Wichita comp with original songs in the early 80s you HAD to include a new wave, power pop, metal, or hard rockin' band.

A great song is def worth $3.99 at a minimum.

This is good work. Thorough info too. Glad to see the punkers doing a benefit such as this. H8ers need to STFU and open up their wallets and/or trust funds.
