Music Shit / Discogs/ebay
« on: February 02, 2017, 05:20:03 AM »
I know this is redundant but I can't find a recent post to attach to.

What is the point of listing records one owns on discogs and charging 3-4x what they're worth? And then and I receive emails every day about these absurdly overpriced records.

I know this sounds like a grumpy Seinfeld bit but who bothers to list their collection on these sites. Who cares? I've bought something here or there but largely it seems to be flippers and clueless fucks trying to turn a narrow buck. Why is discogs even needed for that?

I regret ever using eBay. They're corporate, destroy the local record business and makes everyone sitting on a sack of shit thinking they're King Midas. I've gotten some great deals, dealt with difficult assholes in selling and have generally not been happy with the way it's gone.

Also, it's gotten worse. There really aren't auctions much anymore but set prices that mirror  discogs. If you haven't had a bite on that 50$ single that came out 3 years ago for 6$, maybe you're just an asshole and should start flipping oil cans like those guys on pixkers.

Just needed to vent

Will pay 30$ for a solid copy of either

Just watched The Young Pope. It was interesting. I guess the director is some sort of big deal. He did that ridiculous movie with Sean Penn being a pseudo Robert Smith Nazi hunter.

I saw today that David Simon (The Wire) has a new show coming on HBO centered around Times Square in the Seventies. I got really excited about it and then I saw it's starring James Franco. While, the last miniseries, I couldn't really get into, The Wire, Treme, Generation Kill and Homicide is some of the best television dram ever. Hopefully this will truly out Vinyl to shame

Wow, that dude in the front row was the head 'sosh' in The Outsiders and the girl sitting next to him looks like she's forty. I love how sheetrock in movies can somehow stop heavy assault rifles too.

Anyone else get the feeling that there's a film crew up there in trump tower documenting who has succeeded and failed whatever Trump's hazing processes are to be part of his cabinet?

This whole thing has been increasingly disgusting. How about larry the cable guy as ambassador to the u.n or that 'can you hear me now' asshole as head of the FCC.

I was told to hold out on Westworld and that it gets much better as the season progresses. Has anyone gotten into it/. Think it's worthwhile to spend a hungover day indulging in it?

Boner hung himself, boner hung himself. Happened just the other day. Growing pains gone and pushed him off the shelf.

Bad taste and bad humor. I actually felt pretty bad for the guy

bands that wouldn't be red flags for me:

Neu (wouldn't be much of a green light either)
Magazine
Swell Maps

I know so few people who know Swell Maps that I'd be stoked to find some bands that are trying to rip that style.

Suburban homes could be considered that and they're fantastic

Music Shit / Rock and roll/punk Christmas records/songs

Having a party and was wondering about good rock and roll/punk Christmas songs.

Of course I figure Phil Spector Christmas and I love the Yobs and a couple Pogues (fairytale, dark Streets of London) Ramones (Danny says, etc).

And then theres stuff like impact-punk Christmas which is pretty crappy

And now it starts....

http://www.baltimoresun.com/news/maryland/baltimore-city/bs-md-ci-bell-foundry-20161205-story.html

I had a feeling that the first space like this that got shuttered would be in Baltimore for some reason.  I can honestly see this type of knee jerk reaction happening anywhere though.  I'm sure I'll hear of a space like this get shuttered in Toronto or Montreal any day now.

And I imagine closuers and clampowns like this will ensue. This whole thing is horrible and the only way for the media to react is who is at fault rather than sympathy for the victims. If there was an insightful way to follow up on this in the media, maybe they would do a story of how fucking outrageously expensive it is to live in the city these days. When I was young (in  Baltimore) there were artist warehouse parties all the time. We set up shows in an abandoned warehouse (the loft) that had been doing shows since the early 80's.

Where are people supposed to live anymore? On the West Coast? Forget about it. Unless you make close to six figures in tech or whatever, you're fucked. Seems like these guys carved out a niche in an increasingly homogenized city landscape . The whole thing is tragic but having the fire marshalls become worse than they already are...

Fire marshalls have made things difficult if not impossible for a number of venues here in Portland to function anymore. They cite tiny infractions seemingly at behest of developers who want to capitalize on suddenly hip neighborhoods. I talked to one bar owner whose kitchen was destroyed when a fire marshall 'tested' the sprkinler system inside. I imagine this is going on in Oakland, S.F has been doomed for awhile I asume, L.A, and anywhere else where the germ of 'revivial' and the lust for tech-bucks is rampant. And where does everyone else go?

I felt endlessly terrible for the woman being interviewed on the radio today. How the fuck was she suppsoed to know about fire code or who was at fault after dealing with this? There is such sensationalism i the media after an event like this that empathy is an afterthought at best

You can hear it on their homepage: http://www.theundertones.com/_/Home.html

Listening to it remastered made it sound like Boots and Braces aside from the vocals obviously and the fact that it was recorded 6 years before that.
