YO- I saw Cosmonauts in California recently and had a moment where I stood there, mouth agape, dumbfounded at how good they sounded.  Totally went up to the guy who plays the phantom vox-looking guitar and asked him about that one song where he did that one part that was cool.  Got the name of the track (Sweet Talk) and was ready to purchase on the spot, but they didn't have any, so I bought it as a download from their bandcamp page.  Now I know where to get it, so thanks!

I am a big fan of the Cosmonauts.  They seem to get better every time I see them, which is pretty regularly since I live in Los Angeles.  I already have this 7" though.

Bump.

Tons of choice shit dropping off Netflix tonight, including:

BUSTING: Very cool dark crime comedy with Elliott Gould, who was on fucking fire in the 1970s and very stylish direction from underrated Peter Hyams. Not on dvd.

James Bond Collection: Especially DR NO, FROM RUSSIA WITH LOVE and GOLDFINGER

Robert Altman's THIEVES LIKE US & VINCENT AND THEO

KES: Awesome boy and his bird slice of neo-realism from Scotland.  Presumably staying on Hulu.

A CHILD IS WAITING: Underrated early Cassavetes with Burt Lancaster.

THE BURNING: Sort've by the numbers 80s slasher film but with exceptional murders orchestrated by effects guru Tom Savini.

TOP SECRET: "I know a little Russian, he's sitting over there" Still on dvd but whatever.

CUTTER'S WAY: Underrated but on dvd.

I got a copy of Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds - The Boatman's Call yesterday at Amoeba for $9.99.  There are some annoying pops and one song has two skips but I'm going to take it in for a professional cleaning to hopefully fix that.  Either way, I'm very happy to have gotten it for so cheap.

"take it in for a professional cleaning??"
what's this??   how is this different from home cleaning??

A local record store has one of those record cleaning machines (I think it might be a VPI) and he will clean records and put them into a new static free, sturdy plastic sleeve for fifty cents per side.  I usually bring him my most troubled cases with skips, pops or just an excess amount of dirt in the grooves and get them back with a lot less surface noise and sometimes no pops.  I have a home cleaning kit and it works fine when the record is not in bad shape but there is only so much it can do.

Music Shit / Re: Great prog

Lard Free, Heldon, Aphrodite's Child, Moody Blues, Andromeda, Quiet Sun, Family, Goblin, and Brainticket were all great.

i also agree w/ bentclouds in that krautrock is pretty much another word for prog.

shit like Marillion also sucks.

Good call on Goblin.  I forgot to include Italian Prog in my likes, something like Osanna - Milano Calibro 9 (aka Preludio, tema, variazioni, canzona) is terrific.  I wish somebody would just go around repressing all of those great Italian poliziottesco prog soundtracks on vinyl.  I especially want Guido & Maurizio de Angelis' soundtrack to Il Grande Racket.

I enjoy King Crimson and I guess a lot of Krautrock crosses over into prog territory.  Canterbury Scene stuff is a huge blindspot for me and I know plenty of people adore that stuff, I should really try to dive into it.
