VENEER
CASUAL MAGIC
LP

An eclectic mixture of powerpop, glam, punk & rock n' roll-from the filth of the gutter. VENEER is LA based  & the brainchild of songwriter Pat Salway. Laced with piano, saxophone and lush strings, "Casual Magic" is a cinematic rock n' roll experiment featuring members of DR BOOGIE, DIRTY EYES, RICHMOND SLUTS, TELEPHONE LOVERS and YACHT CLUB. If Bowie wrote and produced a record for Tom Verlaine, it would sound like this." The record has a mid-70’s powerpop / glam / punk feel with abstract lyrics, lush strings, piano and saxophone. 2nd album to be released on Burger Records 10/27/2017

Straight outta Bell Gardens, the Black Mambas have come to fuck shit up and lay waste! Full throttle high octane Rock N Roll to the edge of recklessness with Chuck Berry style leads ala the Kids conjuring up the Killed By Death cream of the crop. Their cutthroat mantra of 'Fuck Shit Up!' has scorched almost every corner of the globe and they're not coming up for air just yet. Wild Records, where Rockabilly typically rules the roost but they recognize the goods, signed these four Angelenos, and soon thereafter the Mambas released their 45rpm record entitled "Baby I'll Give it to You" & their self titled album "Black Mambas" Rock & Roll playboy & jetsetter Johnny Witmer (the Stitches & Crazy Squeeze) produced this bad oscar so you know it's legit. Harkening back to the days of old with a hammer hitting blend of Pub Rock 77 Punk Rock & Roll Killed By Death sound. Not reinventing the wheel but not contrived.

Tracklist:
1. Saturday Night Fist Fight
2. Up All Night
3. Lusty Lady
4. Feel My Sole
5. Moderation
6. End Game
7. Rico Amor

LP (LICORICE RED OR WHITE VINYL)

STRAIGHT OUTTA LONG BEACH!

My immediate response to first hearing Telephone Lovers was to surmise that the band had to be from Los Angeles. I got that right, although I may have been about 40 years off in pinning down the time frame! Telephone Lovers' self-titled debut just screams "L.A. power pop" - and in my mind I see this band sharing a stage with The Nerves or 20/20 in 1977. Telephone Lovers take it back to a time when power pop was one of our purest forms of rock n' roll - coming on like modern day heirs to the likes of Dwight Twilley, The Raspberries, Flamin' Groovies, and Scruffs. Even with an added pinch of New York Dolls/Hollywood Brats street tough glamour, the vibe here is so perfectly mid-'70s power pop that it's not hard to imagine any of these tracks turning up on the old Rhino Come Out and Play compilation. - FASTER & LOUDER

Non-Music Shit / Re: Cascade Record Pressing.
« on: December 08, 2015, 02:38:38 PM »
Barnesey - does Cascade have any current job openings?

Will you be filling out your name as ASS INVADER on the application?

applicable skills:punctuality, good work ethic, ass invasion, strong mechanical skills, proficient with microsoft excel...

I seldom speak of myself in the third person, but Ass Invader gets things done!  Anyone who chooses to employ him has made a wise decision and can expect meaningful, substantial, quantifiable results.  You aren't handed the name Ass Invader on a silver platter while lounging around waiting for the world to present its collective ass, it can only be EARNED!

That said, Ass Invader *will* be using his birth name on his application.

Monsieur Ass Invader, send us a resume.

RECENT PRESS:

"It would take a hard-hearted rocker indeed not to find great joy in Giuda's second album. This five-piece from Rome (featuring members of noted Euro punks Taxi) play stompy, super-melodic garage-glam with a pitch-perfect level of cheap gloss, doting retroism and quite glorious silliness. From Wild Tiger Woman's honky-tonking strut via Yellow Dash's Slade-ish lollop to Teenage Rebel's faintly psych-pop shimmer, the hooks are relentless, the playing unfussily skilful and the charm unfailing. That's before you even get to the song about that time Giuda won the World Cup (it was 1-0; it's not entirely clear who they were playing against), or the sleek, almost spacey homage to the wearing of wheels on one's feet that is album highlight Roller Skates Rule OK (to be enjoyed in conjunction with that quite glorious album cover). Bright, brilliant and clearly actually rather big of heart, Giuda are beyond a joke, in the best possible way." - the Guardian

"When a band is described as ?the new Gary Glitter? ? by legendary pop Svengali Kim Fowley, no less ? and their label proudly slap the quote on their website rather than irately demanding a retraction, you?re entitled to wonder what the hell is going on. The answer: Italian quintet Giuda are the greatest ?70s glam-rock band to have existed since? the 1970s. Bedecked with more handclaps and tambourines than a Pentecostal church, their second album starts with a Mud reference (?Wild Tiger Woman?), cribs from The Sweet?s ?Blockbuster? (?Teenage Rebel?) and reaches a conceptual zenith with the song title ?Roller Skates Rule OK?. Their zeal for time travel would be frightening if they didn?t write such stomping tunes."  - Noel Gardner / NME

"Rome's premier 70s yob-rock torch bearers present the first 45 from their second LP; Let's Do It Again. Wild Tiger Woman is an effervescent stomp-along with a tongue-in-cheek video filmed at the Villaggio Olimpic, built for the 1960 Rome Olympics. Pre-emptinglikely queries, guitarist Lorenzo Moretti declare that GIUDO do indeed dig Tiger Feet by Mud. "We really love the unpretentious high-energy rock and roll of Mud and yes, a part of our dance is taken from the clip of Tiger Feet on Top Of The Pops from 1974. It was our small tribute to Les Gray." Questo e pulito!" - Mojo Magazine
