New Releases For Sale/Distro Updates / Superior Viaduct 7" reissues
« on: February 20, 2015, 08:34:27 PM »
Superior Viaduct strikes again....

Release date: April 14th, 2015

We are releasing five limited edition singles by THE RESIDENTS, THE GERMS, THE DILS, X and FLIPPER. Each pressed on color vinyl and sold separately here and in stores. Check out individual titles right here or get them all in our special-priced vinyl bundle.

"THE RESIDENTS' 1976 version of The Stones' "Satisfaction" is nearly everything the better known version by DEVO from a year later is not: loose, belligerent, violent and truly fucked-up. A real stick in the eye to everything conventionally tasteful in bicentennial America. Delightfully painful to listen to thanks to Philip "Snakefinger" Lithman's completely unhinged lead guitar and mystery RESIDENT member's menacing vocal, this is a timeless piece of plastic." ? Officer Brad Laner

THE GERMS' debut 45 is often cited as the first true Los Angeles punk record. "Forming," the first song written by Darby Crash and crudely recorded in guitarist Pat Smear's parents' garage, captures the band's cultish allure and crushing lack of musicianship. The B-side track, "Sex Boy," was recorded live on the set of Cheech & Chong's Up In Smoke. As Claude Bessy gushes in Slash magazine in 1977, THE GERMS are "beyond music ... mind-boggling ... inexplicably brilliant in bringing monotony to new heights."

THE DILS formed in Carlsbad, California in late 1976, although they soon relocated to San Francisco (and later Los Angeles) to become one of the preeminent bands in early West Coast punk. Their debut 45 appeared on What Records?, the same label that released THE GERMS' Forming single. While "I Hate The Rich" combines catchy melodies with a perfectly punk politique, "You're Not Blank (So Baby We're Through)" features brothers Chip and Tony Kinman's harmonizing vocals and the group's tight, breakneck rhythms.

Formed in 1977, X quickly established themselves as one of the best bands in LA's flourishing first wave punk scene. Featuring vocalist Exene Cervenka, vocalist/bassist John Doe, guitarist Billy Zoom, and drummer DJ Bonebrake, their debut 45 was released on the seminal Dangerhouse label in 1978. While these songs were later re-recorded for their second album, the versions on Adult Books / We're Desperate reveal X's raw talent for totally sincere songwriting and stripped-down rock n' roll.

FLIPPER formed in San Francisco in 1979 on the cusp of Ronald Reagan's presidency. It seems fitting that their debut single (originally released on Subterranean in 1981) turns environmental disaster into the band's modus operandi. Chorus-less and catchy-as-hell, "Love Canal" features all that would become FLIPPER trademarks in four art-damaged minutes: knuckle-dragging tempo, ear-splitting feedback, basslines to crash your car to and a depraved frontman wailing about uncomfortable American matters. "Ha Ha Ha" is even more direct in its intent, mocking suburbia with a flat, almost psychotic laugh.

Music Shit / Cassette Tapes
« on: March 01, 2014, 04:19:37 PM »
Who is the "go to" in the US for cassette manufacturing? This project will be a budget(not-diy home dub) release of 100-500 copies. I see Rainbo and Morpehus minimums are 500 cassettes.  Any tips?

Non-Music Shit / eBay Icons. Where are they now?
« on: February 02, 2014, 01:51:49 PM »
When I started an account on eBay circa Y2K and got the record collecting bug, there was a few constant sellers/bidders. It was so much better when we had access to the bidders identity. I never had the dough but I followed these guys and learned what was desirable or cool in early punkers. Kinda like a visual kbd comp. I miss the days of seeing the bidding wars.

Here are some I remember: Modboy, Lpman, Zoloft Anoconda, Amateur Gynocologist, Ryebread

So where are these guys. I know one was Rob Noxious and other Ryan Richardson. Who was Modboy? He won EVERY AUCTION

Non-Music Shit / Phillip Seymour Hoffman. DEAD

Breaking: Actor Philip Seymour Hoffman found dead in Manhattan apartment. wsj.com

Oscar-winning actor Philip Seymour Hoffman was found dead of an apparent drug overdose ? in the bathroom with a hypodermic needle still in his arm ? inside a Greenwich Village home on Sunday morning, cops said.
A personal assistant found Hoffman?s body in an apartment at 35 Bethune St. and called 911 around 11:30 a.m, sources said.
Cops are at the scene and are investigating, sources said.
In 2006, Hoffman publicly admitted that he nearly succumbed to substance abuse graduating from NYU?s drama school, but got sober in rehab.
?It was all that (drug as alcohol), yeah. I was anything I could get my hands on?I liked it all,?  he told ?60 Minutes? as the time.
Last year, Hoffman reportedly checked himself into rehab again for ten days after relapsing in 2012.
TMZ said he began using prescription pills, then snorted heroin for about a week before realizing he needed help.

This year marks the 50th anniversary of a short-lived Cleveland TV show that's still being talked about today ? by musicians. It was called Ghoulardi's Shock Theater, and for a generation of Ohio kids, its anarchic host could be called the Godfather of Punk

I like the Gamblers "Something To Crow About" and the "Backsides" CD was just a fun. "Backsides" and the S/t are now on vinyl for the first time I believe.
