Yeah I love season 2.  The last season was my least favorite.

i think everybody pretty much realizes the 5th season was the weakest, but that doesn't make it even close to bad. i've seen the whole thing through a few times, and it always feels fresh

Well, its September and the Tribe hasnt collapsed after the ASB like the last 5 years - were 1 game back in the AL wild card. This seasons pennant race is quite watchable & exciting - LOTS of teams very much still in the hunt. ANYTHING can happen & thats what makes this sport great!

maybe it's exciting in the AL, but the NL is all locked up, save for the Central. NL postseason is gonna be a bloodbath. The Pirates/Cards/Reds all have really extreme records against each other - either blowouts or down-to-the-wire games

I think the nazis are gunna kidnap Walt/ Jesse. Make em dig up the cash. Off Jesse and somehow Walt will escape ( killing todd in the process) then the nazis will drive the whites out of town. Walt will eventually have a showdown with them and that BFG in his trunk. Think the ricin is for himself.

In the end I just hope Saul lives.

Saul is gonna be fine...they already announced a spin-off series for him

^^I'll hafta look into Crawling Chaos, dogg.  Sounds like it'd be right up my alley.  But, really, better than Nurse?  Dang.  Gotta say, when I first encountered NWW I thought Stapleton's take on Surrealism was bullshitty -- like, sophomoric, Cliff Notes Surrealism -- but

No, not better than NWW, just different. They're an actual band, they write songs, rock out occasionally. It's great shit. There's some leftover prog moves, but the stuff ranges all over the place. I think you'd really dig it. The Gas Chair is the one.

You was right, Hewes --  'oly shitt, it's a killer.  Much obliged.  Here, let me post a pic of that amazing cover so I can look at it later today when I peep this thread:

OG mono pressing of this beauty. I'm a sucker for this kind of brazilian stuff. The sleeve's a little banged up, but it sounds amazing for how old it is

A show like The Wire was probably made on an even smaller budget than Breaking Bad and is leaps and bounds better than it.

VINNIE's annual statement I agree with.  On the other hand, I think Sopranos went into a sharper decline than Breaking Bad has.

That's because it did. And the fade-out ending was so embarrassing it's become a recurring joke across the globe.

a show like the Sopranos or the Wire is like Dostoyevsky; Breaking Bad is like an airport spy novel. I enjoy both, but they're totally different beasts

Wait, what? They're TV shows. How is Sopranos poetic or sublime in a way BB isn't? Same shit. Breaking Bad was better at the beginning and didn't go into as bad a tailspin at the end.

One is commercial tv, the other isn't. HBO shows can flow like movies. The commercial breaks on BB are even weirder than the standard timings. HBO shows can be more expansive with language, sex, violence, more "real." The artistic pallette has way more colors on pay tv than commercial. Whether something is "better" or not is a matter of personal taste but paytv has a far broader aesthetic range. So no, they both aren't just tv shows. I enjoy(ed) both shows acritically.

Who watched either on TV? I've never seen an ad during either one of them, personally. And your "can't swear" shit holds zero weight, considering all the great movies throughout history without tits or swears vs. tits n curses in every horrid Hollywood action movie. As for "a far broader aesthetic range," you're conceptually opposed to a sonnet?

You watched both on your television. One was produced for commercial tv, one wasn't. Even though you may have seen BB videos w/out ads, each episode is structured to include ads, scenes are sequenced aaccordingly.  Where is my "can't swear shit?" What I said was BB is limited in what it can do not all those good movies of yore. BB exists in a gritty milieu of cops, tweakers, gangs, etc. The roughest language is an occasional "shit?" BB DOES show sex scenes. Could they be better without network censorship? BB does push the envelope on violence.  Many of those great movies you refer to contained no violence. So what if every shitty action movie contains what you say? I'm tellilng you about BB. I didn't say everyone can USE the far broader aesthetic range to great effect. Do you think Gilligan and company could? Shakespeare was the master of the sonnet and had complete artistic freedom when he wrote them the way he did. Can you honeestly say if they were unfettered by network censors, the creators of BB would make BB exactly they way they are now. And if you respond try to avoid your typically boring and empty reductio ad absurdium, straw man or your appeal to mockery which you should actually be ashamed of. You present yourself as the ass-kicker of the board but you are weilding a nerf hammer. Don't put your eye out douchebag.

I don't think it's necessarily commercial vs. HBO tv. I think it's just a difference in storytelling tactics. What I was suggesting was that the Sopranos, in my mind, offers a lot more in terms of psychological richness and character development. The currency of Breaking Bad, meanwhile, is mostly crazy action or badass stuff happening. BB also makes a lot more use of stylized dialogue ("I am the one who knocks," "tread lightly") and of typical cinematic tricks to increase excitement (cliffhangers, plot twists, easter eggs). Because of this, I think the entertainment value of BB is a lot closer to a Hollywood movie, and the entertainment value of Sopranos is closer to a novel. Don't get me wrong, both are great art. But they scratch different itches, and I *prefer* the kind of understated, novelistic style of the Sopranos over the action-driven, flashier BB, even though I *like* both
