Kye put out a great 2 CD compilation in 2009 - Life Review. Might be a good way in...

I recommend the C & B 7" on Siltbreeze for pre-Shadow Ring activity.  Love Amateur Doubles as well.

Today:

Roxy music-country life: finally got a copy of this for a decent price and now have the first 5 roxy lps . Only listened to it once but I really liked it, on par with the first 3, maybe the best post eno?

'The Thrill of it All' is a great opener, but I gotta say I think Stranded and is the best post-Eno. 'Mother of Pearl' might be my favourite Roxy track.

I'm going to be honest with you.

Mostly I'm listening to Red Hot Chili Peppers.  Their '90s stuff is great, even the maligned One Hot Minute LP with Dave Navarro on guitar.  It's an excellent, kind of weird, mainstream rock 'n' roll record.

I found One Hot Minute genuinely disturbing when I heard it years ago. It has a profound unheimlich quality.

Fantastic! Glad to read that back issues are available too.

finally got The Lost Domain - Blondes Chew More Gum on Negative Guest List, and I have to say it's fantastic and completely kicks anus.

Now I'm very excited by the emergence locally of Ragtime Frank, a player on said double LP. Apparently a solo effort from this guy is very close emerging.

the ragtime frank lp is sold out for now, talk of a repress but i'm not positive

Copies in at Volcanic Tongue today, if you don't mind international shipping. I'd move fast though.

Good documentary from the BBC's 'Arena' strand:

As for books, 'The Legendary Joe Meek: Telstar Man' by John Repsch is supposed to be pretty good.

The number of compilations of Meek produced or inspired stuff is fucking daunting though. Personally, I found the 'Legendary Joe Meek' CD recommended by Jon Savage in 'England's Dreaming' to be enough, but you might want to go for the 'Joe Meek: Alchemist of Pop 1958-1966' box set. For instrumental stuff, check the 'Vampires, Cowboys, Spacemen and Spooks' CD.

Underrepresented on vinyl. A decent 2xlp compilation would be welcome.

I will have their new record "Ghetto Blast" out on May 1st as well as the new Gary Wrong single and Dead Neanderthals sophomore effort. I will have some pretty great bundles available too that will contain their first record and tape.

Definitely gonna get that new one. One of the sweet things about 'Young Love' is - as I think Tom Lax alludes to in his recommendation of it - that whilst it is so easy to get that kind of explosive fuzz sound wrong, when it's right, it pushes into a whole new level of pineal crushing sublime.

I DJ Trio all of the time. They can fit with almost anything. Rock n' roll, electronic, punk, minimal synth, krautrock, even noise. "Boom Boom" is always a fun one.

Yo, what's up w/ that Sunflare rec ('Young Love'? That shit fried my brain-pan on the train earlier (bubble hash helped). Sounds like what people think Purling Hiss/Birds of Maya do.
ie. update the High Rise/Mainliner motif for hardcore-heads. Almost Puffy-levels of awesomeness. Besides the fact that I know it came out recently, I don't know shat about this band.

.....oh shit they're from PORTUGAL?? fuck yeah....

edit: ordered. 250 copies? thank you to Termbo's fave label spammer: SUCK CITY

where do i get dat sunflare?

Volcanic Tongue in the UK still has copies (or should do, according to their site). Couple on discogs as well.

The Fall, Slates 10".

Perfect 10".  Leave the Capitol is such a great, caustic denigration of London.

"You know in your brain / Leave the capitol / Exit this Roman shell!".
