"I'm so sick of people thinking that everything is up for consumption whenever they please without any true context or history or understanding of where things come from or the ground work people put into it."

while I empathize with the sentiment, I gotta say the idea behind it will only take root when the underground quits licking whatever shiny boots come around to offer them a membership in their club

which if youve been paying attention to the history of "underground" culture is very unlikely

I can't argue that, most people are bootlickers, underground or not. In fact I'll go one step further and say I'm sure some people would consider me a bootlicker. Nothing I can do about that. I guess it's just something about post-graduates, with money to burn and capitalist idealism that sticks a thorn in my side.

Man there's so much to say to about this article, which I read nearly six paragraphs of. First off anybody acknowledging they're the third, as in Dick Cade Sadler III, is an asshole. Second, fuck the Loews Regency Hotel and fuck whatever a power breakfast is. I eat my breakfast out of bowl next to my kids on the couch. Third, hasn't Brooklyn's cool arched already. I'm pretty sure once The National played Barclay's Center that place was dead. In fact I'm pretty sure once The National formed that place was fucking dead. Shouldn't the fucking New York Times know this? Fourth, ?They came to us for content and we brought them the concept." Further proof that the mainstreams appropriation of the underground is gross. Something about the commercialization of alternative lifestyles, i.e. communal living, angers me to no end. This is just Jay-Z's 'Occupy All Streets' t-shirt only with more education, laptops, and artisanal tacos. I so sick of entrepreneurs and Christians disguising themselves in DIY clothing and aesthetics. I'm so sick of people thinking that everything is up for consumption whenever they please without any true context or history or understanding of where things come from or the ground work people put into it. To misquote Bender why don't these people just bury their heads in the sand and wait for their fucking rapture.

I'm so glad I never moved New York.
Is this a Jesus thing? TBH I didnt read enough to bother finding out for myself.

No it's not, but there is this weird thing I've noticed over the last few years where Christians have appropriated the "underground/indie" aesthetic and yet remain ardently most of its politics, i.e. thinking for yourself (and yes I am aware that most will contend the underground has no inherent politics). Now I understand that might not truly exist and I might be a bit naive. But I hate seeing people who look like me who are fucking pro-life patriarchs. I tied it with the dudes in the article because they seem no different than the guys I run into from high school who sell real estate, manage funds, bank, etc. but all love craft beer, James Blake and have really cool mustaches.

never thought i would see a thread about this on termbo.  my wife's parents love it.

My mom used to love Robin Harris & George Carlin. Now she loves this show. I'm not quite sure what happened.

I thought about it and he's not like Tebow, he's like KISS, he's the fucking Gene Simmons of underground music.

Zodiac signs are as dumb christianity.
22
is he really that famous over there? hardly anyone has heard of any of him here.

Like it was implied, he's only famous to those who want/care to know.

It really bothers Americans when people with a lack of talent find and maintain success or notoriety
O is that it?

Seems that way to me. I'm American by birth and trade and Americans are often jealous of other people especially who they deem or see as undeserving, i.e. Svenonious, Tebow, Paris Hilton, etc. It seems a more modern phenomenon based mostly on the access people now have into other people's lives. And don't get me wrong I'm one of them, as someone who makes art I am often critical of people I see as hacks. Just not this guy.

You're not gonna top this, so why even try?

Is this about taking a piss?

I understand that lots of people in the united states seem to really dislike ian svenonius. Why is this?

It really bothers Americans when people with a lack of talent find and maintain success or notoriety, which Svenonious has been able to do for over two decades. This is especially true in the punk/indie/art worlds where success is synonymous with compromise or mediocrity. With that said I never liked anything he's done, even N.O.U. I don't begrudge him though.

Setting aside quality etc. - what a fucking awkward item to have in your pocket, these devices are flat for a reason.

Do you have a Pono in your pocket or are you just happy to see me  ::) ::) ::) ::) ::) ;) ;) ;) ;) ;)

I was just going to say this thing makes it look like you have a boner in your pocket. Anybody see that story about Young at sxsw avoiding the question of how much he makes from Pono:

By the way, cool fucking necklace Neil.

Music Shit / Re: post your proudest live moment

Had a band called Jesus' Last Breath, late-90s, grindcore. We caused the power to go out twice at a house party and then got lectured by Mormon. Second only to the time we played as The Murderers and spent the first five minutes of our set railing Clinton, then another five minutes trying to light a pile of money on fire, then three songs, then twenty minutes of me and the drummer screaming at each other in the parking lot about whose fault the failure of the set was. I still blame Clinton.

Non-Music Shit / Re: Movies I've been watching
« on: March 05, 2014, 07:20:14 PM »
Lately I've been watching a ton of Peckinpah. Started with Wild Bunch which I hadn't seen in about fifteen years, then did Straw Dogs, Cable Hogue, Convoy, The Getaway, & Ride the High Country. This guy is fucking genius, these movies are strictly for men and I love the way all his films are about guys trying to buck the system (except for perhaps Cable Hogue). The violence and what is often cited as misogyny seems to rest at the feet of the men and has more to do with their current cultural standing rather than with the women in particular. Anybody else into this dude or got some tips on guys like him. I'm a big Walter Hill fan too (The Warriors, The Driver, 48 Hrs). Suggestions for going down these roads.

Is it just a gust of wind coming out, or are you spurting blood?

No bullshit they warn you that the first couple there might be blood mixed in with the semen.
