Music Shit / Re: America's Dumbest Record Store
« on: July 24, 2012, 03:34:51 PM »
A new record store just opened up in town, about a month ago. I like the guy who owns it, and I want to support the store, and have so far. Sadly, I am noticing a substantial price creep on the used stock. 28 dollars for a VG copy of Dream Syndicate - Days of Wine and Roses (Ruby Records JRR-807) seems high. All the new-old stuff coming in seems high. I want locals to thrive, but I'm not going to be a huckleberry.

A lot of call center jobs are also getting outsourced to the Philippines. Get ready for a conversation with Roy the Pinoy, he can help. =/

Been playing the UTAH JAZZ 7" EP most of the night. I was not familiar with this band before I got the record, so I expected a sound similar to Brown Sugar. Utah Jazz spun me around when I was not expecting it, and lodged itself in my brain. I can't remember the last time a record surprised me the way this one has.

If anyone needs the NASA Space Universe Tour 12", Resurrection has been listing them on Discogs. The price is a little steep (they had some at 17.99 and now it's a dollar more), but here is a chance to grab one if yer looking.

Getting ready for bed and playing Canonball Adderly "Somethin' Else". Adderley - Miles Davis - Sam and Hank Jones - Art Blakey. Nothing more to say.

Non-Music Shit / Re: Ubuntu/open source OS

LibreOffice is what I use. I have tried other distros before but ran into problems trying to compile shit on my own. Ubuntu just seems so easy. You have any criticisms of it, especially regarding privacy/security?

Not any specific security criticisms that are Ubuntu exclusive. If you use SSH for accessing your computer remotely, make sure it's secure, read up on it. Don't hang out on your root account, use sudo from a normal user account instead.

I got away from Ubuntu because I wanted to learn Linux better, but if you are looking for ease of use, Ubuntu is probably ideal.

I am a long time Linux user. I have tried many distributions over the years, and found Arch Linux with XFCE4 as my desktop environment to be a good choice for me. I suggest trying some other distros down the line, but Ubuntu is great place to start.

LibreOffice?

Posted track sounds great! This band continues to be great... BELIVE DA HYPE... Fuckin' Scotch Tapes duder took me for about $50 I sent him for a few copies of the Anti-climb record... any copies of this floating around? I still haven't heard it. Shit! Yeah.

Shitty mp3s is how I've heard Anti-climb. That pup needs a repress! The Scotch dude must have used the rest of the records as fish bait. Top Pheromoans material, sucks that people lost cash over it.

Buying this new one when it hits the States.

Clean copies. Jimmy and Wes looks unplayed or one played once. Wish it was mono, but still a keeper.

Hit some consignments today. Grabbed a dozen 45s at one place for $0.58 per. Two copies of Count Five - Psychotic Reaction//They're Gonna Get You. One is trashed, one is nice.

Guess it turns out there are a ton of these out there. Does not change a thing for me.

I am looking for a NM Damned Damned Damned. Frontier, Earmark or other reissues are fine. Black vinyl only, no picture disks.

Need to spin again, got this last week and was distracted through the B-side. I did enjoy what I heard!
