Music Shit / Re: School me on deathrock
« on: January 12, 2014, 12:58:12 PM »
Who said I don't like what kids now call "deathrock"? I think it is preposterous that some 2013 internet aficionado is telling us that drugs were only a small facet of the music scene, that the music was definitively non commercial, and that FIELDS OF NEPHILIM or whatever 80s "sellout" goth rock band isn't "deathrock". Actually the late 80s was a real time play out of cult bands selling out or dying as junkies or both. It's cool you jumped on the new emo bandwagon before your friends, but you kinda need to chill out and realize that people existed before your internet goth bros did.

You really think it's "preposterous" that someone is talking about music on the internet? Why don't you start a thread about how drugs killed  "deathrock" rather than whining about it here?

Perhaps you've recently lost a friend ("deathrocker" maybe?) to heroin , in which case please find a PERSON to talk to. I've been on both sides, actually in the time period under discussion, and it sucks. Bad. Barring that you're coming across like a baby.

Be a nice break from the Acousma demo that's been destroying my brain while in the truck.

Music Shit / Re: Your City's Best Bands

Slim pickings here in Petaluma - historically there was Freestone and Norman Greenbaum.  Going much further back we had Harry Partch for a while, not exactly a "band," but the cultural high point of the place, easy.  Now?  Maybe "least worst," might get you somewhere, but no, it's too painful to contemplate.  There's a jazz saxophonist named Oliver Hunt who's from here, though I think he lives in SF now - anyway, stumbled onto him in the unlikely setting of a barn dance & he's pretty good, free-but-not-screechy in a vaguely Ornette vein.  I'm gonna count him to block out thoughts of the folksy fuckwits singing songs about chickens.

T.O.C.!!

Music Shit / Re: Rob Noxious

Nice, someone to compete with Stoopid Record's prices.

Christ....just the name give me goosebumps. Was, unfortunately, in a commited Heroin addiction when that store was around and sold him some primo shit. Dude was so scuzzy. Had an enormous collection of white power shit in the back. If I remember correctly his wife was a pretty decent looking asian chick. Poor thing.

If it's the same Rob Noxious that was in Intensified Chaos some friends of mine stole his parka at a Mod show at the Berkeley Square in the mid 80's. Obvioulsy a very serious theft for a Mod at the time (such as they were). They ended up giving it back after finding out it was his as he was a pretty cool guy back then.

Don't know about any of that hype shit but the BS 7" is pretty good.  It's no A Place in the Sun but pretty swinging.

Good night funny man. Time to dig out S is For Space. Still remember getting all kinda great shit in the mail when I first got that record. Also notable as my second signed record, after Cheap Trick's "One By One". I was 13 or 14 and had a Clash button on. Rick Neilsn said "The Clash...cood band. Drummers a junky". Saw them the next day on Mud Island  w/ Saxon and aldo Nova.

So yearh....RIP Mr Fear
