i'll 2nd "france demo tapes" and "heavier than a death in the family" as great examples as well as great places to start

"Les Rallizes Denudes - Ethan Mousike DVD" is readily available for download and is worth watching, as well

stoked to hear "electric pure land"

One of the best of that era, no doubt. Let me see if I can find a wicked live video of him that blows my mind every time...

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DdXdsyDJC5Y

There it is, totally crushing. Also as the story goes he got drunk one night and cut off his two extra fingers (one on each hand) with a straight razor.

was going to post that exact video

for acoustic or "country" blues, here are a few greats that haven't been mentioned yet:

charley patton
blind lemon jefferson
blind willie johnson

as far as electric, otis rush was mentioned, definitely worth exploring...

i'm a fan of the howlin wolf and muddy waters "psychedelic" records (the howlin' wolf album 1968, electric mud 1968)

both had similar backing bands, including pete cosey, who is probably more well known as the dude that would shred guitar sitting down in the last miles davis band
