Cities / Re: basel, switzerland?

I only spent an afternoon getting lost there but it was the only place in Switzerland (or anywhere I went in Europe) that had food trucks. They were near the train station, can't miss em.

If you walk down to the Rhine, there's a spot where you can be standing in Switzerland and see both Germany and France. Whatever that's worth.

Just wandering around the old city marveling at the buildings was great. It didn't seem real to me.

All the museums in Switzerland I visited (although none in Basel) were excellent. There's a big university in Basel and I reckon they have some cool collections. I tried to take a piss in the library but couldn't figure out how to check my bag in with their automated security thing since all the signs were in German. Turns out they have alleys though

Didn't do any record shopping but I did drop by a store called "Comix Shop" near the train station. I bet they could point you in the right direction

I hope you're getting paid for this trip. Switzerland is out of control expensive.

ZZ Top's Deg?ello

this shit defines perfection in an LP for me

memorable songs and lyrics, over the top solos, emphasis on groove, pristine production, killer track sequencing and no song sticks around too long.

Non-Music Shit / Re: what are you reading?
« on: May 06, 2015, 01:24:02 PM »
I think I'm finally gonna read Ulysses, after threatening myself to for years. If I had not been a dummy and gone to school, I would've read it a long time ago.
Then I'll have something to talk to my dad about (j/k, although he's somewhat of a Joyce-o-phile).

Is there anything about the early Irish punk scene in it? I guess I'll find out.

I read Ulysses as a young man and would recommend reading a guide along with it for each episode. There's a lot of truly psychedelic shit going on I would have missed without a little scholarly help. Peristalsis....whatta thing

Doing a quick review of Homer's Odyssey might also benefit the reader

I think I'm due to tackle it again one of these days

NR: Collection of Harlan Ellison short stories called Shatterday. Hehe, shat. Guy was a total asshole but sometimes (okay, a lot of the time) it feels good to read something by an even bitterer, more conceited asshole than yourself.

On deck: Donleavy's Balthazar B and some Hemingway short stories.
