V/A - The Thing From The Crypt (Dark Entries) - sat on this for months without playing, now can't stop. 1981??
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GgglOn9f8dY

Quttinirpaaq - No Visitors (Rural Isolation Project) - bought this on a hunch, only just cracked it open. Noisey, fucked up, mesmerising. Sometimes locks into a drone groove. Will definitely be picking up the 2nd LP for 2013 that has just been released.

"A must for shut-in assholes that think they know everything. You know who you are." - MC (Max RnR)

This Mitch Carwell character spots a winner:

Norman's Records in the UK also heap more high praise:

"A sticker on this record declares it to be ?A stew of Australia?s deadliest exports like King Snake Roost, Feedtime and Lubricated Goat combined with the cunning of the Country Teasers, the wonk of The Fall and a Killdozer scrawl?, and our friend at the distributor told us to turn it up super loud ?cause he thinks it?s great. I?m listening now and thankfully it?s not all hyperbole; this record truly does rock.

This lot dish out a scrappy, clanking noise punk gabble which takes in the Birthday Party?s gritty violence and Pissed Jeans?s drunkenly swaying obnoxio-rock swagger. It?s totally reminding me and Phil of a lot of late ?80s noise punk stuff on Am Rep like Cows and Surgery and the aforementioned Killdozer. The rhythm section clanks and clatters viciously, the guitar tones are trebly and glassy and the vocals slur and holler drunkenly over the top. If you pine for those noise rock bands which were ten a penny in the late ?80s and much rarer nowadays, this?ll push all the right buttons. It may sound like it?s from another time, but it?s excellent stuff regardless."

Hunting...The Stickmen
by Troy Colvin (March, 2006)

One man's quest to find out more about an elusive and mythical beast known as The Stickmen. An enjoyable and enlightening read.

"A month went by and with it a new season arrived; I could no longer remember how they sounded, but I couldn?t force the idea of The Stickmen out of my head.

Finally another sympathetic casualty from the bunker of mediocrity took pity and sent me a burn of the CD. I listened to it. Over. And over. And over. Where had this music been all my life? I got drunk. I turned it up loud and jumped around on the bed. I bragged to anyone who?d listen that they were amazing and vowed to track them down and find out what the fucking deal was. You can?t just be in a band like that and not tell anyone. It?s not fair."

"this is my favourite article to be published in M+N mag. This band were amazing, and their music still holds." (username karencarpenter)

First pressing sold out in a week.
2nd pressing of 300 copies now available with a different colour vinyl variant. No numbering.

"Folks you should check out this incredible record by The Night Terrors. It is pretty awesome it's like Bruno Nicolai meets MBV jamming with a gigantic theremin." (Death Waltz Recording Company)

"After the punk rock slurry that?s been dished about the Australian landscape, we all could use a breather. And this is one heady trip with plenty of room to breathe. A reissue of a 2009 CD, ?Back To Zero? is made up of atmospheric post-rock instrumentals featuring a heavy dose of haunting electronics and Theremin. Night Terrors could speak to the Tortoise or Godspeed crowd, but they seem steeped in horror film lore and the pulsing Death Waltz/Dagored label soundtracks than either of those outfits. (I must not be too far off; I see they?re doing a stint opening for Goblin). You could literally fly to Melbourne and grip a copy of this LP before I could finish breaking down every track. Kudos to Homeless for stepping out of their piss soaked cardboard box of a house and releasing this epic journey. There?s a song titled ?Existential Revelation In The Circle Pit At Slayer? on here. You should probably buy this just to have that on your shelves." - RSF (Terminal-Boredom)

"Hoisted, is dark, dirty and not at all nice. It?s the antithesis of the facile pop that makes music industry executives salivate with excitement and ejaculate with greed. Like Bird Blobs and King Snake Roost, Sewers plumb the festering musical depths of depravity with perverse glee. ?Drive the Nail? is less a song than a provocative philosophical statement, backed by a bruising and chaotic attack; close your eyes, and there?s a sea of heads throbbing in perfect unison. ?Ugly Party? is, um, just that. If beauty is in the beholder, then ugliness is everywhere you expect to be ? and this track is the punk equivalent of 10-hour surgery gone horribly wrong. I mean that in a good way. This isn?t a pretty album but, then again, the world isn?t either. But there?s also a strange, paradoxical beauty to be found in the depths of humanity. And that?s where Sewers are hanging out." - Patrick Emery (Mess+Noise)

"HOMELESS RECORDS is making a name for themselves by releasing some of the most feral ugly mean swamp punk in Australia, or really anywhere for that matter..... following killer down n dirty releases by BITS OF SHIT, THE STABS and THE CUNTZ (all of which you need to track down), HOMELESS is back with their best release yet, the debut album from SEWERS, entitled HOISTED !!

Serious junkies for swampy, abrasive, trashy rock n roll need to TUNE IN now.......SEWERS distill their angry aussie heritage of feedtime, SCIENTISTS, COSMIC PSYCHOS, KING SNAKE ROOST and VENOM P STINGER into one fireball of misanthropic scuzzy post punk on HOISTED..... few bands conjure such dark foaming at the mouth, beat you senseless in a dark alley, ominous RnR like they do....... forget JESUS LIZARD. CLOCKCLEANER or HOMOSTUPIDS, SEWERS surely blow those other bands away........

HOISTED is a death rock bent, post hardcore explosion of unruly evil punk that'll either scare the shit outta you or be yer new favorite album...... there's no middle ground on SEWERS.... and if you like any of the aforementioned bands, you'll be grabbing for yer wallets in a sec..." Merchants on the high-sea of Antipodean negativity and paranoia. Suburban dislocation filtered through corybantic hate. Melbourne?s GENTLEMEN scrawl through 7 tracks of anti-modern thuggery, indebted to a lineage of afflicted Neanderthals. The ugliness of FRANCIS HAROLD, the nihilism of FLIPPER, the obnoxious repetition of STICK MEN WITH RAY GUNS, masticated and spat-out across dog-eared copies of ?MEET MY FRIEND VENOM?. The cult of GENTLEMEN continues with the re-issue of SEX TAPE on HOMELESS.
Dragged kicking and screaming into higher-fidelity by MIKEY YOUNG.

"Ugly rock from Australia. Think FEEDTIME for an old comparison, USELESS CHILDREN or SLICES for a modern one. Chaotic, really dirty and "I Wanna Be A Closer" is my favorite song of the day, though I can't imagine GENTLEMEN would care. And that is why they are awesome." ? MAXIMUM ROCK AND ROLL

?Being a punk band a couple decades ago must?ve been tough.  Being a bummer punk band like Flipper, Stick Men With Rayguns, Drunks With Guns, or feedtime must?ve been even tougher.  GENTLEMEN, along with the Lamps, Shaved Women, Francis Harold and the Holograms, Pissed Jeans, Watery Love, and a half-dozen or so others are admirable.  They make the kind of ugly, bleak noise rock I need in my life.  The kind that?s equally influenced by the aforementioned bands and side two of My War.  I couldn?t tell ya exactly why I wanna hear this kind of music, it?s just in my blood.  What I do know is that my blood boils every time I hear of a new band creating this raw, uncompromising, completely unmarketable kind of rock?n'roll (a key distinction?this is not just noise).  If you put a thermometer under my tongue while I was listening to Sex Tape I surely would?ve shot mercury all over the wall, and that?s not all.  Ok, maybe that?s all.  Regardless, if the name dropping I did in this stupid review got you excited, you?ll climax your mind over this tape.  Someone please press it into vinyl already.  Tapes are so 2010.? ? These will not be enough to go around. Homeless has been inundated by stores wanting to preorder before we've even offered them.

Seemingly spontaneously, the tiny Hobart music scene underwent a radical upheaval in the late 1990s. Not content to slog it out on the local cover band circuit or to court the indie mainstream prevalent on the mainland, young bands like Sea Scouts, 50 Million Clowns, Little Ugly Girls, The Frustrations and The Nation Blue turned inward, channelling the experiences of growing up in an insular outpost of civilisation into an uncompromising din of noise rock that bore little or no resemblance to what was happening anywhere else in the world.

Foremost among this group of restless explorers were THE STICKMEN. Their sound was a dark blend of post-punk rhythms, mutated surf-rock guitar lines and tightly wound nervous energy. Out of nowhere, only a year after the band's formation, their genius burst forth fully formed on their self-titled debut album in 1998. On songs like 'Strangeworld', 'Night' and 'Creep Inside', Guitarist/singer Aldous Kelly conjures a foreboding atmosphere that perfectly reflects the damp, crepuscular ambience of cold winter nights in Hobart. Drummer Ianto Kelly and bassist Luke Osbourne lock into skittish grooves, while Matt Greeves' innovative use of turntables acts both as a rhythmic device and source of unsettling atmospherics.

Their follow-up, Man Made Stars (1999), represents not so much a progression as a consolidation of The Stickmen's vision. Having made tentative forays to Melbourne, where they dazzled small audiences with a bunch of explosive live shows, this album sounds more self-assured, delivering bona-fide classics such as the title track and their signature tune 'City Is Dead'.

In typically uncompromising Tassie style, the band did not see out the end of the year though. Having made their point concisely and definitively, they disbanded to pursue other interests and musical ventures, Aldous eventually relocating to the even bleaker environs of Greymouth, on the West Coast of New Zealand's South Island.

That should have been the end of The Stickmen. Unbeknownst to the band though, over the years their legend grew. Enthusiasm was fanned by ex-Hobartians who had achieved a degree of influence in the Australian music scene, such as Mike Noga, drummer of The Drones, and The Nation Blue's Tom Lyngcoln, who released a Stickmen compilation CD, Who Said It Would Be Good?, on his label Solar/Sonar in 2008. The unhoped for occurred in February 2013, when the band reformed to play All Tomorrow's Parties in Melbourne, at the behest of festival co-curators The Drones. It immediately transpired that The Stickmen had lost none of their chemistry or propulsive power, and they made a further surprise appearance at Hobart's Dark MOFO festival in June, being rightly celebrated as local heroes.

It is extremely timely then that HOMELESS RECORDS re-releases both The Stickmen's classic albums. This also marks the first time these recordings, remastered by expert engineer Mikey Young, are available on vinyl. Limited edition of 500 copies each, 150 of which are beautifully hand crafted & silk-screened, the remaining 350 featuring old style ?tip-on? sleeves.

Three top notch releases to end what has been a huge 2013 for Homeless.
With just one release for 2012 (the Bits of Shit 'Cut Sleeves' LP), Homeless has unleashed a further TEN LP's in 2013.

Since announcing the two reissues of Tasmania's long forgotten favourite sons, The Stickmen, here at Homeless we have been inundated with questions regarding the releases. Here they are, finally, the delays caused by The Stickmen's unwavering quest for perfection, which sees them release each LP in a spectacular, silk-screen edition. Hand crafted by New Zealand professionals, with no less than 7 colour separations, lacquer, and metallic powders then die cut, glued and including a printed inner sleeve with liner notes.

Silk-screen editions are limited to 120 only available for preorder worldwide.

'The Stickmen' and 'Man Made Stars' will each also be available in editions of 350 case wrapped (old style "tip on") sleeves on thick board.

Each LP includes a download code, with a bonus previously unreleased track.
'Man Made Stars' is pressed on Aqua Blue vinyl.

Both albums remastered by Mikey Young.
Released 13th December, 2013.
