How old are you? Metal heads used to read Kerrang! It was a thing. Hell, there was a time when one of the ladies from 13 edited Metal Maniacs in the mid-90's and they covered grind, sludge and crust bands, including reviewing 7"s and demos. I would never compare it to MRR, but I knew other metal heads that read it, as did I along with any other printed material I could find that covered the music I liked back then.

You talking about Alicia? She was in a hardcore band out of NYC called Insurgence. She may have also been in the band Harbinger with Born Against members if I remember correctly.

She was dating a dude from eyehategod and they talked Metal Maniacs into letting them write for or edit the mag.

Things were better. Better access to cocaine, 714 quaaludes, speed. Sex without fear of terminal disease. You could go places without surveillance cameras. You could mouth off to cops or even go toe to toe with one without the thought you'd be shot. The Ramones weren't all dead. It was better in a punk rock context.

Now kids can see the world without ever experiencing it. There's thousands of things they can get into, instead of dozens, and they can half experience it all in their house. Music is just a random selection to listen to while they dick around on Facebook. They don't pay to listen to music so they don't cherish it. Albums I bought I'd listen to like 50 times a year minimum, I could play every song on them. If I knew I could download or play any album I've ever wanted to hear for free years later then I would have spent more time away from the record stores waiting for this fantastic future world. Then again I might have died a drug related death with all that extra money.

around 2015 i was at work and this 21 year old gal who bartended at my place walks in my office while i'm listening to Siege, and she refers to it as "dad rock"

wasn't even the song with the sax, it was full speed Siege

granted when I was a young kid I thought Black Flag was cool and the Ramones were sell outs, but I mean I eventually grew out of that silliness by the time i was 21
