Non-Music Shit / Re: Movies I've been watching

Yeah, I was disappointed. I thought the premise of The Lobster was great, so I ignored numerous negative reviews that harped on its annoying stylistic quirks. The impassiveness and awkward action worked well in some scenes (especially the ones with the fuck-maids!), but mostly it just seemed like a conceit. It was like the director'd seen a few Robert Bresson films and said "Hey, I like this actors-not-acting shit!" and decided to appropriate it without bothering to figure out what Bresson was doing, or why. Maybe there's no link whatsoever, but ya know, some people have to blame Henry James or Gert Stein for every run-on sentence they see, and I might be one of those people. True, the sex/romance industrial complex isn't a far cry, but there's probably a movie out there that says it better. The last four minutes were pretty good, though.
The Ear is on Hulu right now with English subtitles. (I've upped my movie-watching quota recently 'cause I read somewhere that Criterion's launching their own subscription streaming site in the near future.)
