re: Gaunt > If you like Mom, you'll love Sob. If you don't like Yeah, maybe hold off on Krypt.
Gracias. Gettin' schooled hard on Gaunt here, it's very much appreciated.

Rollins Band, Life Time LP - Record store clerk at a sub-par local shop was playing this a few weeks back. I asked if it was for sale and of course he says that he just bought it. I was really surprised how much I liked it, though - for some reason I always thought Rollins Band was really lame. Sold from the opening screams, and "Gun In Mouth Blues" is a killer.

Gaunt, I Can See Your Mom From Here LP / Yeah Me Too LP - Finally checked these out, urged on by the discussion in the "Recent Acquisitions" thread. I Can See Your Mom From Here is really good, exactly what I was hoping for, but Yeah Me Too veers a little too close to pop punk for my taste - mostly in the vocal delivery. Why do grown men sing like that? I'll never understand. Still gotta give Sob Story a listen, but I'm really glad I dug a little deeper into this band.

Eastlink, "Wild Dog" b/w "Blood Money" 7" - I can't stop spinning this one on lazy sunny days. I mean, it's a little too menacing and noisy for relaxing, but it's really hitting the spot lately. The demo is good but didn't leave much of an impression; these remastered tracks seem to make a big difference. Bring on the LP!

Future Blondes, Feather 17 LP / Fuck Buttons, Slow Focus 2xLP / Don Cherry, Brown Rice (or is it self-titled?) LP - I'm writing my PhD research proposal, pretty much have had these on repeat for background music. Future Blondes are dark and driving, not unlike Balaclavas' stretched-out tracks on their Snake People LP. I have always really liked Fuck Buttons despite their stupid moniker. I'm a little lukewarm on most of Slow Focus but I really, really like the last track. Checked out that Don Cherry album because of this thread; it smokes. Infinite enjoyment from that one.

Received my red copy in the mail today. Sounds great, and the whole thing looks really nice, too. Bang-up job!

Still anxiously awaiting the new Permanent Ruin 7" on Warthog Speak... was supposed to come out at the same time as the Gag 7". Also just saw that Iron Lung is putting out the debut 7" from Warthog soon-ish, which is cool. Warthog's demo was/is pretty impressive.

Gaunt - I Can See Your Mom From Here
I need to dig deeper into Gaunt's discography. I only have the Whitey the Man 10", which I love, but for some reason I've not checked out anything else by them.

Negative Capability 2XLP on In The Red
Whoa, awesome news. Those 7" reissues were cool but this is gonna take the cake. Hope it does include the live tracks.

Public Image Ltd., First Issue LP - I had no idea that "Theme" was just about everything I like musically in one song, until listening to this yesterday. It's rare that albums hit this hard and stick - kind of a cleansing of the palette. Fantastic reissue.

Sam Dees, The Show Must Go On LP - Total sucker for these old soul records that rappers have sampled to death (Willie Hutch's The Mack is another favorite). Some real down 'n out lyrics make it a heavy listen.

Constant Mongrel, Heavy Breathing LP - I wasn't expecting this album to come close to Everything Goes Wrong, but it really delivers. More aggressive and a little more goth-y than the last LP. "Choked" is my stand-out track but they're all winners. 20 minutes and that's all ya get.

Is that Human Expression LP still around? What's it going for?

The Native Cats, Dallas LP - http://thenativecats.bandcamp.com/album/dallas - I can't say why exactly this record is their best after only a handful of listens, but I really believe it is. There's a lot of good stuff going on: the quiet opening tracks, the rave-up "Cavalier," the excellent closing combo... man, that 12-minute track at the end is just the best. Native Cats fanboy for life. Gripped a copy from Goner yesterday, but they seem to be out now.

Yi, Punk Memories 7" - I have this band's first 7" and I only remembered it sounding a little like I Was Born at Night-era Meneguar. Time to revisit it. This new 7" is a killer, albeit a sloppy, kinda drunk one. That B-side is somethin' else. Punkers take note!

Hank Williams, Lovesick Blues: August 1947-December 1948 2xLP - grabbed this one from Indoorsman a bit ago. I went into this cold, but I've got a lot of friends that worship at the altar of Williams so I figured why not. It was a good purchase, a nice retrospective to get my toes wet.

Ooga Boogas, s/t LP - Lukewarm reception be damned! This is a pretty solid album. Sure, different from the excellent first LP, maybe a little corny at times, but I also can't stop playing it so who's to say? The Yellow Green Red review kind of nailed it with the "infiltrated by 80's coke-rock" bit, but it's actually much better than that makes it sound.

Daughn Gibson, Me Moan LP - Loved All Hell, do not love this one. An increase in recording budget leads to... "Kissin' on the Blacktop." No thanks. Some interesting ideas but nothin' grabs me quite like the Dull Knife 7" or the entirety of the debut.

Like most everyone else, I've been buying more reissues than anything else this year. Off the top of my head for new stuff:

LP:
Counter Intuits, s/t
KEN mode, Entrench
Mordecai, College Rock
Pissed Jeans, Honeys
Satanic Rockers, Fu Kung

7":
Condominium, Carl
Good Throb, Culture Vulture
Housewives, s/t EP
Pleasure Leftists, "Elephant Men" b/w "Not Over"
Yi, Punk Memories

12"'s by Ash Borer, the Body and Gag this year are all really good, too.

I'm watching a bunch but I know I won't be able to afford 'em!

Got mine in the mail yesterday evening. It comes as no surprise that this smokes, especially on the B-side.

Daughn Gibson, Me Moan LP - I really liked All Hell and that 7" on Dull Knife, and I was pretty excited to see that Gibson got signed to Sub Pop... but this LP is pretty atrocious. Nothing at all memorable except maybe "You Don't Fade," and "Kissin on the Blacktop" is just downright unlistenable. Oh well!

King Blood, Where Is He 7" - Excellent little single. One fuzzed-out rocker, one slowed down burner, another essential release from Ry Wharton.

Gag, 40 Oz. Rule '90 7" / This Punk Shit Is Cool But I Hope I'm Rob Zombie When I'm 28 MLP - two killer releases from Olympia's Gag, a bunch of fucking weirdos playing some nasty punk rock. The delay effect on the vocals isn't so bad with a little increased fidelity. These have been getting a lot of play lately.

The Shadow Ring, Put the Music In It's Coffin LP - I don't think I can listen to this band if the sun is out. Seems more fit for dreary days and cold nights. A tough sell otherwise!

Stoked! Grabbed one.

I've been streaming this a lot at work lately, really awesome record. Finally pulled the trigger on the LP today.
