It's funny, "Bad and Boujee" is in the bottom-5 songs on the record. The one part that is good, really good, is only the third part of Quavo's verse when he starts the DAT WAY. The rest of the album is fantastic, though. You can't possibly think the production on those mixtapes or their songwriting is better, on the whole. Or the raps. By standards, maybe Takeoff on "Fight Night" but uh

Well, "Call Casting" for starters. It's weird, tho. "Mask Off" is great n all. But you need the whole sequence. I don't get people who can watch sports highlights. What does it all mean.

Production is on point for Culture but the run from "Big on Big" to "Deadz" is insufferable on repeat listens. The album is alright. I really like "All Ass" for some reason. Slow year for rap.

Quelle Chris put out an album that is probably also just OK, it's very long and drags in parts, but I like it for its emotional levity: https://quellechris360.bandcamp.com/album/being-you-is-great-i-wish-i-could-be-you-more-often
Rarely will I push something that has anything to do with the so-called "golden age" of hip hop but this one is solid.

I haven't heard either of the Future records. Maybe I should.

RIP. They'll be sorely missed.

Does this mark the end for Lightning Bolt, too?

They're on Thrill Jockey.

There's a lot. Users: cranefortune and Jared oughta have a bunch to say on this.

- The DECAYES "Aquarium" (LP. 2014) [US]

What is your opinion of this? It's impossible to stomach for me, especially when compared with something like Not Yet.

Wish I woulda grabbed the Die Tödliche Doris reissue sooner, but I imagine they'll repress it.

Kodak out the pen seems... different now.

No kidding. Didn't make it through that track.

Starlito's Manifest Destiny is good, often great. Big step up in production for him. His Stepbrothers 3 with Don Trip drops soon but if you've listened to 1 and/or 2, you probably know what it's gonna sound like. Still looking forward.

Really wanted to like Ralo's Famerican Gangster 2 but not much sticks. Too many features? Maybe. Disappointing because I love Diary of the Streets.

Just heard the Orion LP that Cool Death in Melbourne is about to release...very sick. I'm sure Sam at Feel It will be getting copies and I most likely will try to get some too.

Really liking this LP.

Pura Mania's Cerebros Punk is great, too.

Yob: too hectic for this old cunt

I don't understand this at all. The Unreal Never Lived and The Great Cessation are both highly recommended here, but I don't know if I'd call Yob "hectic" at any point.

Grief, Come to Grief is a must. Bad lyrics but 99% of these bands are guilty of that. Great vocals.

Corrupted/Noothgrush split, along with Paso Inferior and the last two tracks of Se Hace Por Los Suenos Asesinos.

Harvey Milk's Courtesy and Good Will Toward Men is the best.

Heading here Feb. 16-22. What's good to do here? I'll look into the list of record shops above... any shows happening?

Definitely interested in trying some strong Danish beer. Recommendations welcome.

Mark Feehan, M.F. II LP - I had my reservations about this record, what with its description of "befuddlement and bemusement," but it's really surprised me. Fingerpicking acoustic tunes alongside some weird electronic experiments and German vocals... hard to pin this one down, but kinda like Rogue Moon by the Howling Hex (pardon the borderline useless reference point; that record just happens to be playing now), it takes you somewhere and when you're through, there's nowhere to go but to put it back on and dive back in.

Mordecai's Abstract Recipe is great, as expected. Builds on the freewheeling Neil's Generator in all the right ways.

David Thomas and the Pedestrians, The Sound of the Sand and Other Songs of the Pedestrian LP - Grabbed this from a shop a few weeks back and have been much more into this than I imagined. Frantic Ubu-isms within, and I hesitate to say so but this one's got a bit of a new wave bent, something I generally abhor/avoid. Good solid record; cheap and easy to find, too.

Arthur Doyle, First House LP - Great great great live set recorded in 2012 from the now-deceased Doyle. He's backed by a full band and the recording sounds crisp and clear. Starts and ends on a more frenetic note, but the in-between is somber and affecting. Good, maybe essential to have that variation on a free jazz record. A big hit around here lately.

V/A, Burkina Faso Vol. 1 LP - I don't go for many of the obscure African/Middle Eastern compilations but Bill Meyer's review (here: http://dustedmagazine.tumblr.com/post/154680025679/various-artiststhe-music-of-burkina-faso-sublime) of the Burkina Faso 3xLP set was a strong selling point. It's all good but the side-long zoners on Vol. 1 are the best part.

Pierre & Bastien - Musique Greque LP
Great follow up to their 2015 album. One of my favorite current bands.

So good.

I really like the new Mordecai. The Mark Feehan record Richie just put out has been getting a lot of play, too.
