Music Shit / Re: MOM ROCK
« on: April 28, 2009, 03:28:11 PM »
for my mom, it was all about:

cat stevens
the moody blues
joni mitchell
otmert liebert (sp?)
the beatles
rolling stones
neil young
the yellowjackets
randy travis

pretty eclectic there, mom.

since then, horizons have been expanded to include both john mayer and the ting tings.

highlights: making a mom a mixtape about 5 years ago, resulting in her knowing and loving random pixies, pavement, replacements, ect. songs.

playing the stooges s/t in the car and my mom doing the head bob/chin strutting out thing, claiming "this sounds alot like the rolling stones. it rocks"

The Mekons

beside the first couple 45s and the first LP, what's worth getting by them as they made a bunch of records?

'fear and wiskey' and 'the edge of the world' are the best (most consistant) besides these, but all of the releases have some choice cuts. Just sucks that many of them are spread amongst bad dub experiments/annoying female vocals/spoken word stuff.

last blackout...

party at my house. i think it was my birthday; my best friend had made me cupcakes. i start throwing them off the balcony at people. the line for the bathroom is too long so my friend and i start peeing out my back window. later, i puke in my shirt and a rubber homer simpson mask and throw it off the balcony, at which point a few people try to fight me. but it's my house so they don't.

which thrift store was this?

I recently scored 2 bootleg LP comps of rare psych singles at a San Diego thrift store. One was called Worldwide Psychedelic Obscurities, the other one is in a plain white sleeve with no apparent title. One is on Morphine records or something like that. Hand numbered on the back (editions of 300). The one with the plain white cover just had the song order written in pen on the inside sleeve so that one probably had a real cover at some point. The other one had a little booklet talking about the singles.

Same thrift store had some dude's giant dubbed tape collection. Hundreds of tapes - good shit but they were all $1. Got a few - both volumes of Instant Pop Classics, some Velvets boot & both Shaggs records. Left behind EVERY Fall record, Dead C, early Scritti Politti, first few Royal Trux etcc etc.

Oh yeah, and the FM Knives CD was there too. And some Homosexuals one CD promo for the 3 CD thing.

New Releases For Sale/Distro Updates / Re: floridas dying back up
« on: March 03, 2009, 10:31:15 AM »
is there any way you could start posting on this message when you you get new shit in like you used to?

pure laziness on my part, and if it's a big hassle don't bother

but i've found myself going to your site as often as i do these forums. plus, it used to excite me to see the words "floridas dying" at the top of the new releases

theres another thread for this down below somewhere...but that would take a few back clicks

beyond that, 'swim hole' starts out sounding like jad fair fronting...i thought of this earlier, no idea what of

and of new stuff, ate my teeth/not invented in a row is fucking exciting to hear. perfectly executed scuzzypunk/just-droney-enough outro followed by what could be the best jamc song in years
