Non-Music Shit / Re: Best Regional Beers
« on: February 02, 2009, 06:14:14 PM »
i agree that lagunitas is good. i have heard so much about dogfish head, as well as bells, but just can't seem to find them....

here probably two of the best that are easily available in southern california:

and

definitely way good. I also like the ballast point pale ale a lot, another san diego beer. There is this place in San Marcos called "Lost Abbey" brewery and it is REALLY good, they do different stuff, but mostly Belgium style beers

nailed it.

alesmith ESB is my all time favorite beer.
ballast point yellowtail pale ale is great and makes the rest of their beers...uhh pale in comparison
anything stone is pretty top-notch, not a big fan of the smoked porter. their pale ale, levitation, ruination ipa, arrogant/double bastard, barelywine, everything else...
pizza port's sharkbite ale is also mighty tasty

That's pretty awesome.  How many did you end up selling?

I'll hang on to my Swans and Birthday Party shit. Beyond that I'm good with faceless digital facsimiles.

I don't remember, but probably about 1500. At least a third of the cds were total junk from my youth though (ie scratched dishwalla/toadies/sunny day real estate cds)

Non-Music Shit / Re: DUI CLUB
« on: February 02, 2009, 06:06:07 PM »

Things I learned getting a DUI in California:

1)Never get a lawyer. In my DUI class with about 30 people, most got lawyers. These ranged in price from $1500 to $8000 bucks, all with the same result. Some of these people were able to get out of the 4 days of required community service, but that's it. Unless the arresting officer didn't read you your rights or something insanely dumb like that, getting a lawyer is a joke.

Someone close to me just beat the DMV DUI hearing with their lawyer. The lawyer proved that the police where not following the law at the roadside checkpoint. Lawyer found this evidence in the officer's report. Score 1 for the lawyers.

The law regarding this basically says that once a DUI checkpoint becomes visible (from the road the DUI checkpoint is on) there must be an "out" (ie. a road to turn off onto). After that out, there is no way to exit the DUI checkpoint. Assuming it's the same circumstance, and considering the report is available to you and your court appointed lawyer, I gotta say that paying a lawyer is still unnessessary.

2) The law treats you different in California if you are over .08, over .15, or over .20. The differences between .08 and .15 is minimal, but after .20 your 3 month classes turn to 9 month classes and you are required to go to 36 AA meetings instead of 3. But also of note, AA stands for alcoholics anonymous. You can forge this quite easily if you just research where meetings are held and forge a few signatures.

3) You can get a DUI for sleeping in your car while drunk, backseat or not, as long as the keys are in the car. You can also get a DUI for intent to drive drunk. A guy in one of my classes was leaving a bar and opened his car with his remote. A cop heard the beep and was waiting by the car when he got there. Since it was 2am and bars were closing, it was considered reasonable cause to assume he was leaving and charge him with a DUI. The charges held up, too (this guy had a lawyer).

4) Alternative option: smoke lots of weed (not inside your car) and put visine in before you drive.

When I sold my cds, I looked up almost anything over amazon. If it was over 5 or 6 bucks, I listed it. If it was under 4 dollars, I took it to music trader (local shitty music shop). I guess this is pretty much the standard procedure that most music shops do anyway. The music trader dude told me that 80% of their cds they sell online. All in all I walked away with about $3500.

For backups, I took my hard drive and transferred all the files to an external one, then took that and transferred them all to a friends' as well. External hard drives are fucking cheap these days.

How would you know unless you were in the audience? drum roll to crash, laughter. Hope the new drummer is as good.

You're right that it doesn't translate as well (= lots less noisy)... but I think his Fan Mag days helped him to be able to hit the high melodies pretty seemlessly. Overall, not bad

And he's played three shows.  Live, hmmm... doesn't translate as well.  The recordings have everything layered numerous times.  Live it's one guitar, drumset and vocals.
