I know of somebody who says he was ripped off by Hardware to the tune of ?50 or so. I ordered records from him (Chris from Hardware) after hearing this and received mine pretty quickly, though I was a bit wary, obviously. I've heard that he's setting up a record shop and this is taking up a lot of his time, but that's no excuse for the length of time to hear back from him. Hope you hear something from him soon.

And one of my favorite interviews:

Woah! He seemed quite the fan of Glasgow. Detroit with accents! Ha ha!

Lots of old, classic Finnish hardcore, such as Riistetyt, Kaaos, Bastards and the likes. From the time when hardcore from certain countries had a pretty specific style/sound.

Larm/Hersey/Heibel at Stringfellows pub in Paisley in, maybe, 1987? I was underage (and looked it!) and there was a bus strike, too. Had attempted to go to a gig there before (Antisect earlier that year) and the pub manager knocked me back, though he did offer me the chance to sit in his flat above the pub till the gig was over with. Funnily enough I knocked him back. Loved Larm especially so I was pretty devastated. Still stings a bit 27 or so years down the line.

Gary McCormack who played bass for the Exploited has appeared in a few films. He always seems to play a total bastard.

New Hassler lp, pretty solid.

Not as good as the 7"s, but still pretty nifty. Heavy Poison Idea influence, though more post-Kings Of Punk.

Music Shit / Scurrilous punk rock rumours

Thought it would be fun to hear of dodgy rumours (rumors for our American friends!) that you've heard about punk bands (or fanzine editors, gig promoters, etc.) over the years. There was one on another forum a few years ago and it was a blast. Hit me with some, please!

Eddi Reader of Fairground Attraction "fame" (remember the awful "It's got to be-e-e-e-e-e perfect" song?) sang backing vocals for Gang Of Four. Pretty lame example, thinking about it.

Chicken Bowels was mentioned, but what about Googolplex? Crazy 7"!

Sic
Rose Rose
Fearless Vampire Killers
Mink Oil
Dead-Ups (awesome all-female hardcore)
Early S.O.B.
Nightmare

The "My Meat Is Your Poison" comp. LP is a particular favourite of mine. The bands of that era were great, before crust really hit Japan. "Thrash Til Death" is an absolute stormer. Made the guy play it in a record shop in Paisley when it came out and he practically begged to turn it off! Ha ha!

I actually quite like some Sonic Youth stuff (esp. Daydream Nation), though I'm not a massive fan, but that Untouchables cover...It always seemed a bit "Let's be real hipsters and throw on a shitty cover of a semi-obscure hardcore track and people will genuflect in front of us as our coolness will be off the scale!" It's all too gentrified-Lower-East-Side-studio-apartment-dinner-party-tastic.

Maybe I'm wrong, but Thurston Moore always struck me as a bit of a hardcore tourist, By that, I mean he kinda liked some of it and even played with the occasional band (Even Worse) but he always seemed to like it for the "coolness" factor rather than having a true love for it.

Kinda liked Quicksand for a 5 minute period. Saw them play on that tour and someone threw a full pint over Walter Whatshisface. Welcome to Glasgow! I think I was looking for something a wee bit different from straight ahead hardcore at the time as I was getting burned out with it. Looking back, it's all rather alterna-rock, isn't it? Funnily enough, now I'd rather hear a straight-ahead hardcore record than anything that fucks too much with the formula.  Well, they do say you get more conservative (small "c"!) the older you get.

Three Parent Family...that sounds vaguely familiar, though it's been a long time. Probably had an issue or two amongst the loads of zines that got dumped in the late 90's. Real idiocy on my part, particularly since my own zines were thrown out at the time, too! Managed to get all 4 issues from someone else years later.

Funny story about your mate that moved to NYC.

I've played Hymns 8 times over the past couple of days due to this thread, it's a superb record, the 2nd 12" I can't get into. It's strange, I found BA and that style of hc a difficult  listen back in the day, more into Nomeansno, Rhythm Pigs, Moving Targets, Victims Family at the time. Thing is I remember everything about that night, Sam wearing a nasty little cardigan and never once touching the mic the whole set and everytime he sang he held on to the ass of his jeans like if he didn't he was going to fall over. It was almost theatrical and planned in an arty kind of way. Antics throughout the whole set. Another NY band I saw around the same time were GO. I interviewed them and they were fucking weird. Mike Bullshit had this horrendous stutter but it didn't prevent him talking incessantly (longest interview I've ever done) and  his band mates were just taking the piss out of the poor guy the whole time.
Was it 92 that BA toured Europe? I thought it was slightly earlier, but maybe I'm full of shit. Anyway, I saw them when they played Glasgow and they were great. I tried talking to Sam and he seemed a bit "off" with me, though it turned out he was good friends with the bassist of Citizens Arrest, Joe, who I was trading with at the time. Oh yeah, one of the supports was Downfall, who were BA clones. The vocalist did that whole fall-about-the-stage schtick ala McPheeters. Quite cringey. Think they became Bob Tilton, right?  Never saw Go! when they toured (they never made it this far north), but had interviewed them (by post) for my zine back in 91 (also called Go!, coincidentally) when their first 7" came out. All their 7" rocked, and I actually preferred them to BA. Also remember being really disappointed with the Citizens Arrest LP after their awesome 7". Ah, memories!

Music Shit / Re: Worst song ever

My two nominations:
Cocomo - reasons are obvious if you read the thread, but the cherry on top is that my wife will sing it to fuck with me because she knows how much I hate it.
Moves Like Jagger - I see red, have to resist the urge to kill when I hear this.

Dishonorable Mention:
Lady in Red - no idea who sings it, song is fucking awful.
Chris De Burgh, mate. And it is ear vomit.
