All Poison Idea up to and including Kings Of Punk. Just peerless stuff. Everything after that was a disappointment to me, even Feel The Darkness which had some excellent stuff, but the rock/metal was getting a bit too much for me. Fave P.I. song? I've always had serious love for "Out Of The Picture" from Kings.

I was at the MRR compound a couple of years ago on a trip to SF and got to meet Grace and Eli who were very gracious about some Scottish arsehole talking shit to them and getting excited like a 5 year old at Xmas when I got to see the collection. I'd LOVE to have met Tim to shoot the shit with him about all things punk, though I know he was always on the go and up to something. Struggled with Scottish accents though, apparently. My Glasgow accent might have blown his mind! Sounds daft, but I miss him even though I never met him and he's been gone 20 years. MRR still means a lot to me.

Think Tim along with most of Youth Of Today played a trick on Craig Setari who played bass for them at the time. They put some really rare 7"s in Craig's bag to make it look like he was stealing them. Cue Craig freaking out and pleading his innocence til they let him in on the joke.

Anyhow, Joan, all the best with your new role at MRR. If you do half a good a job as Grace did then you'll be doing great! Good luck.

Kiss were obviously an enormous deal in the States (in the 70s) but did absolutely nothing in the UK minus a couple of hits in the late 80s.

Just ordered the Machine Gun 7" from Even Worse Records in Amsterdam after downloading it. Absolutely ripping hardcore from Philly following on from their demo from last year. My kinda hardcore. https://machinegungungun.bandcamp.com/album/machine-gun

Saw BGK summer of 1985 and they were really fucking good....

Man, one of my big regrets is missing out on seeing BGK in Bradford maybe in 1987? My buddy from school who got me into hardcore was gonna dog it (play hooky/truant - it's a Glaswegian term) from school for a couple of days and get the bus down to Bradford with other Glasgow punkers. He asked me to go but I was too much of a woose to do it as my parents were hardcore, in the parenting sense. Cue him returning a couple of days later raving about BGK and me hating his guts for it.

Not sure if this possible "reunion" is a great idea, to be honest. Let it lie and preserve the memories of a great band.

They won't of course get to the UK and I'm as wary as old bands getting back together as you seem to be. Didn't realise they'd ever played the UK though! Was Bradford the only UK gig or were there others? I was living in London at the time and am sure they would have played there.....how did miss it!

Not sure where else they played in the UK. You would think they would have played London. Think they played the 1-In-12 before they had their actual premises, when the 1-In-12 was held in various pubs.

Heard a few (instrumental) tracks from what was to be their 3rd LP, and all I can say is that I'm glad it was never released judging by the tracks I've heard. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Zq_7s5e1c7s

They always get called out about how they were not a great hardcore band before hitting their glory period, but their actual hardcore tracks are absolutely furious as proven by the Extra Circus tracks.

The new one-sided Systematic Death 12" fuckin' rules. Pretty much the high-speed thrash you expect with a real sharp production job. Short and to-the-point.

I'm liking the new Limp Wrist even though I know next to nothing about techno. A strange detour from them on the B side and kind of jarring at first listen. The A side is good if not as good as previous releases. And do I hear a real similarity to a Hot Snakes song? Overall though, it's a thumbs-up from me, so to speak.

OK, I'll bite. As far as I know Allan McNaughton still contributes to MRR (the odd interview and review) and all the stuff you quoted was just a pisstake. It was in the April issue of MRR, which is traditionally full of April Fools jokes. I'm sure he hasn't really went all religious, though he has been in California for many years now... Right enough, he used to have that rat-tail thingy hairstyle that Ray Cappo and the Shelter crew used to have back in the early 90s, so "God" could pull them up to heaven or some such shite. Maybe he was a Krishna and I didn't know it. I knew Allan back in the late 80s/early 90s Glasgow punk scene. Nice guy, if a bit emo.

When I first saw the name mentioned I thought he'd died or something!

It's incredible to think how prolific HD were, banging out LP after (double) LP in the space of a few short years. Think I read that "Flip Your Wig" was only a matter of a few months after "New Day Rising". Folk were going to their gigs to hear their latest LP only to be hit with loads of songs from the next one to be released.

Never used to really rate "Land Speed Record", but having listened to it again yesterday, I've got to say that it's intense as fuck, even if the sound is a bit on the ropey side. Imagine witnessing that in front of you, hitting you with a continuous blast of raw-yet-melodic noise.
