Music Shit / Re: Long VICE article about cassette tapes

As for cassettes, how come no one mentions that every hip-hop full length from Straight Outta Compton and earlier sounds best on cassette?

Do you live in the suburbs or something?

Just kidding, of course...

So what are you saying? CD long boxes were the way to go back in the day?

Enough! I will hear no one disparage my Keith Sweat 1992 Summer Olympics cassingle that I got for free in a 12 pack of coke.

Haha, not at all!!!!  For a long time, tapes were what you listened to if you lived south (or north, in some cases) of whatever highway is dedicated to MLK in your city.

Btw this thread is hilarious.

Don't throw urban farming in there with that shit.

The only problem with urban farming is calling it "urban farming" instead of "I've got a garden out back, just like my mom and grandma did."

"I curate organic flavor experiences"... Go fuck a cow.

Coming from a line of dairy farmers, this made me lol.

Anyway, this cassette revival is dumb; I myself am just holding out for the laser pointer revival. Summer of '98 forever, yo!

That already happened and is over with.  And no, I'm not joking about that.

Burger Records is actually working on a collaboration with Urban Outfitters to make a walkman called ?The Burger Buddy.? The difference between this and an iPhone cover that looks like a cassette is that ?The Burger Buddy? actually can play cassettes and Burger hopes this player will influence more people to use tape players and listen to cassettes.

I usually refrain from using this word in this context but that is really fucking gay.

Yep.

I have mixed feelings about them giving exposure to this, but some sort of wide-scale resurgence in the manufacturing of cassettes by major labels sounds pretty unlikely.

Still, this does make me cringe...
