Music Shit / Re: Kim Shattuck on Pixies exit

Why would anyone pay to see them without Kim DEAL anyhow. The rest of them have the combined charisma of  a stale old unwashed sock.

(BUT, I  used ta love them when I was young. Can only listen to Kim's songs with them now, 'Gigantic', 'Into The White'. 'Pod' and the Amps album are fucking great.)

Does 'comedy-punk' qualify? Late-Great Mel Smith-fronted 'Not The Nine O' Clock News' band with 'Gob On You':

Sounds promising! WTF is this?

I don't really know shit about Fuzzhead, but despite the high-seeming total price, I'd say it's a great deal at $8 a tape:

Hold me back! It's just a bunch of cassettes man! The collapse of the World economy really ain't touching some people is it?

Just gimme a cheapo CD release for somethng like this. How much money are we supposed to hand over to hear stuff in these straightened times. We can decide later if it's 'library' / 'reference' worthy when it's got a rep worth talking about. Getting pissed off with this deluxe treatment for what are (on the face of it) minor works. 'Sister Lovers' had to work it's way up to treatment like this.

Gimme a comprehensive official CD box set for Jim Shepard / Peter Laughner / Martin Bramah / Dan Treacy / The Pop Group / Vic Godard / PiL 'Metal Box' sessions before stuff like this.

What happened to the Crime 'Evidence Box' long mooted for Revenant? Too busy pissing about with Jack White's 'furniture'' business?

But Seriously:

Jim Shepard 'Matter Dominates Spirit' CD/DVD Box Set
Chris Bell 'I Am The Cosmos'
Peter Laughner 'Take The Guitar Player For A Ride'

Hopeful for more to emerge from Alex Chilton's 'Third / Sister Lovers' / 'Bach's Bottom' / 'Dusted In Memphis' / 'Sherbet' era. Maybe the LP Arthur Lee was working on just before he died will be good? The live shows from his last few years were outstanding (though I can only remember him playing one (really good) new song).

Cerberus Shoal 'The Real Ding' - real bleary eyed 4am stuff. Don't know if it's depresding so much as cold-hearted blankness. Music for serial killers? I dunno, but I like it. Strangely addictive. Know nothing about this band, can't even recall the other tracks on this CD ('The Vim and Vigour Of Cerberus Shoal and Alvarius B') except Bishop's (inferior) version ('Ding'). Can't imagine they could top this.

Ramones 'Ramones Mania'

Have to disagree with this one-- really gutless, sterile remixes of what were obviously great songs.

'Terminal Tower' is an excellent call, though.

Don't actually own a copy of 'Ramones Mania' myself now, but remember inter-railing aound Europe in the eatly '90's with just 2 cassettes - that and a best of the Beach Boys one and a boombox. Sounded great at the time and I didn't realise that the tracks wete remixed. 'The KKK Took My Baby Away' & 'Be True To Your School' will always take me back to those great times. (I've bought all the Ramones albums individually since then.)

ABBA's for my late Mum - grew up with her playing them a lot and it leaves it's mark.

Blue Orchids 'The Greatest Hit (Money Mountain)' LP (Rough Trade 1982) - Awesome! The guitar fade-out at the end of 'No Looking Back' is utter perfection.

But to get in the spirit (agree with a lot already mentioned, but here's some more):

Cramps 'Off The Bone'
Public Enemy 'Power To The People And The Beats'
ABBA 'Gold'
The Fall 'Early Years' LP
The Undertones 'All Wrapped Up'
David Bowie 'ChangesOneBbowie'
Felt 'Stains On A Decade'
Sex Pistols 'Kiss This'
Slade 'Sladest'
Pere Ubu 'Terminal Tower'
Ramones 'Ramones Mania'
The Who 'My Generation' (NOT the 1st LP, but a succesor to the 'Meaty Beaty Big And Bouncy' LP from the late-'90's with full-length remastered tracks)
Nervous Norvus 'Stone Age Woo'
The Big Bopper 'With A Wiggle In Her Walk And A Giggle In Her Talk' (Bear Family)
Gene Vincent 'Rocks' (Bear Family)
Eddie Cochran 'Rocks' (Bear Family)
Hasil Adkins 'Out To Hunch' (Norton)
Johnny Thunders 'Born To Loose' (Jungle)
Julian Cope 'Floored Genius'
Luke Haines 'Is Dead'
Steve & The Jerks / Anteenagers M.C. 'Campo-Logy' (Fish Lips)
