Music Shit / Re: Your Top 5 American Bands

Feel like an argument could definitely be made for the Monks. Besides them my boring list would be Velvets, Ramones, Cramps and Suicide. Actually surprised no one mentioned Suicide yet, one of  Americas great gifts to the world

The first four songs on the first Records LP are all great. B-side sucks. Second Records LP ("Crashes") is amazing from start to finish.

Agree on this actually, but Starry Eyes blows everything else away once it comes on.

Any more information on this, or who might be carrying it?

The new incarnation of The Prophet is pretty incredible. Heavy sci-fi, good and weird. Warren Ellis' Planetary is very solid too. although I guess it has some "superhero" elements, it doesn't play out like anything I've read before.

Also if you can find (or download) The Long Tomorrow by Moebius it's worth a read. Supposedly they drew inspiration from it for the design in the Blade Runner movie, which makes sense.

This was the year I got really into all of a Roy Montgomery's output, but the Pin Group discography really stuck with me. Great stuff, and one of the few bands I can think of that not only delivers on, but expands their stated Velvets influence.

Also somehow made it til now without listening to Shake Some Action all the way through, which I have spent the last several months correcting.

The Sleaze - tectonic girlz

That #1's song sounds fine to my untrained ear. Reminds me of the first Tranzmitors singles, which I thought were great.

Most listened to that came out this year is probably Resonars- Invisible Gold. Couldn't get that damn song out of my head. http://youtu.be/ZHHjuJVujwA

Speaking of Sparks, what's the general opinion on No. 1 In Heaven around here? Picked it up recently, not at all what I expected, but after a few spins it really grew on me. Love the kraut-y way the songs build on themselves, and think the final two tracks may rank among the best things they've ever done.

Phil Seymour 3 which only exist as a download or something i think,

Does this mean we'll never know what color stripey shirt was going to be on the cover?

Bargain bin this week

The dBs, Like This- Pretty boring, but not terrible I guess. I don't want to call it overproduced since I can dig that sound sometimes when the songs are there, but they're not here really. I dunno. I like "Stands for Decibels".

The Raspberries, Starting Over- My first long play exposure to the Raspberries and I'm into it. Not as wimpy as I remember. If all their albums are this good I may have to check them out.

Pete Shelley, Homosapien- This album fuckin ruled! Had zero expectation going in, never knew anything about his solo stuff. At a loss for comparisons, the synth sounds like Yellow Magic Orchestra and Pete Shelley sounds like Pete Shelley. Not a bad song here, title track and 'Witness the Change' being the best imho.

Phil Seymour,2-  Should have known this would be good. Still like the first better but the dude knows how to write a pop song. Couple tracks try to ROCK too hard and end up stinking, but overall a solid record.

Fleshtones, Roman Gods-  My first exposure to this band, despite seeing them on a billion comps. Starts off with a stomper but on my second listen nothing is really sticking.  I guess if this was the 80s and I was hungry for this sound it might do the trick, but there's so many bands that did this better that I could be listening to.

Music Explosion, Little Bit O' Soul, The Very Best of- Perfect

Tommy Roe, Dizzy LP- Buries the hit at the end of side B, but there's plenty of good stuff to get you through. "Cinnamon" slays.
