Music Shit / Re: The "Why isn't this reissued on vinyl thread?" Part 2
« on: March 09, 2015, 04:55:08 PM »
Coulda sworn it got booted sometime in the recent-ish past. Guess not.

What about this:

Huh, never seen this anywhere. I must be slipping.

Has it been discussed why Nasty Facts has never been reissued, or even (to my knowledge) booted by ANYONE?

My 'lil sis has been jamming the new Taylor Swift non-stop since I've been home for the holidays. A good pop record. Who knew? For fans of Nobunny, Hunx, etc.

1989 is fantastic. I bought it on vinyl!

So I don want to start a new thread but can anybody that's heard that new Spacemen 3 live album comment on the sound quality? And the 30 minute version of "Suicide"?

Curious about the Japanese tag, is that just any artist coming from Japan or like traditional koto music or what? And is it not too difficult to make certain distinctions with punk and power pop, or bubblegum and 60s garage? Not trying to criticize, I'm just interested in how well it's working for you

Music Shit / Do you guys fuck with genre distinctions in your collection
« on: August 20, 2014, 08:17:10 PM »
I'm getting to the point where it might  make sense to break up my collection into more digestible chunks for ease of browsing. I know some people are able to recall every record they own with ease, but often when I'm staring at the expedit I feel like I'm wasting huge amounts of time just deciding what the fuck I wanna play next.

The only thing stopping me from dividing by genre at this point is mainly just knowing that 1 out of every 5 albums is going to cause mental anguish to try and pigeonhole. How many of you have systems, and what are they? How big does a collection get before you need more than just good old A-Z + v/a?

Another obscurity that has come into fashion over the last 10 yrs is J.D. Emmanuel's "Wizards". Truly great simple, meditative, 100% synth love: http://jdemmanuel.bandcamp.com/album/wizards
This is great!

This thread lead me to discover Steve Reich's Music for 18 Musicians, which is not a synthesizer album but still rules

Also I apologize for this thread coinciding with the other electronic music thread but I'm sort of after a different vein here

Yeah more drones and arpeggios. I've fucked with Fripp and Eno a lot but not the others you mentioned, will check those out.

Deal with Walter/Wendy Carlos.

Obviously, Kluster/Cluster, Harmonia, La Dusseldorf.  Craig Leon.  Snowy Red (again).  I don't know how deep your knowledge runs.  Mine is a tide pool.  It's nice and warm.

That Slava Ranko LP is great.  And plentiful: sealed stock copies abound.  Fusetron had it.  Probably still does.  It's somehow still underrated.

Probably obvious, but the Units. Ryser's son is in one or two hardcore bands that people are ejaculating over on this board.

What is a good starting point for Cluster, just the  self titled album? Is Cluster better than Kluster? I know nothing.

I like the Units but synthpunk doesn't really scratch the itch I'm looking for right now, I guess  I'm leaning more towards krauty/experimental stuff (although I'm loving the first YMO album at the moment. Are they all this good?)

Recently stuff I've been partial to... Some Emeralds/Steve Hauschildt stuff, the first few Oneohtrix Point Never albums when he sounded new age blade runner  music.

Just saw they are reissuing Harald Grosskopf- The Synthesist on vinyl again, put me on a bit of a synth kick. I like to throw on Terry Riley or the the Blade Runner soundtrack, obviously there's a whole world out there though. Recommendations welcome, doesn't have to be totally instrumental but preferably  synth heavy at least
