Vertigo EP (tadpole records) available at La Vida Es Un Mus + wholesale

The sun is out and here?s some rousing punk from Spain?s V?rtigo, who follow up their cracking demo with these 4 new stick-in-your-head numbers. They keep it simple, with basic chord structures, punchy vocals, and catchy choruses. Had me thinking Crosta jamming on No Hope For The Kids, with Warsaw whirring away in the background. But hey, what do I know! The moody ?Inoren Inon? is especially great and for some reason I kept half expecting Jeff Pezzati to chip in on vocals. A great job by Tadpole for sticking this EP out and further exposing some cool Spanish sounds.

Onmacht s/t 7? (tadpole / Opiate / etc ) ?3.50

Dark and bleak, yet driving and energetic; Onmacht assault you with thumping rhythms, jarring guitars and venom spitting, throat searing vocals. In these times of austerity and inequality, punks should be releasing records like this; angry, uncompromising and not afraid to be outspoken; this is punk fucking rock in all its pissed off, raging glory. As well as all that, this is a DIY co-operative release between several international labels. You need this record. (Tony/Suspect Device)

?Disculpe! s/t 7? (tadpole / Opiate / Keep It In The Family) ?4.00

Fast, fuzzed out, chaotic hardcore punk with desperate sounding vocals that is really hitting the spot right now. ?Disculpe! feature people who've been around and know what they?re doing, and they've brought all that know-how to this band and delivered a supercharged 6 track 7? that rally blows away any cobwebs cluttering up your mind. It really is a great record, and it?s another DIY co-operative release between three cool labels. This South London/Southend band are as good as any around, anywhere, at the moment, really. Sea Bastard / Keeper 'split' LP (tadpole, dry cough, etc..) ?8

Despite thinking their demo was pretty darn worthy, I haven't heard Sea Bastard since 2011. This, despite a number of London gigs and a couple of hefty releases. In the time since we last parted, things appear to have changed. The heavy quotient has been substantially upped, their expansive elements drawn out, and, on the 20-minute track here at least, the steady flow of their lugubrious riffing has been embellished with long, slow moments of atonality reminiscent of Ommadon. Californians Keeper are hewn from similarly robust stuff, schlurping their riffs up from the same glutinous tarpit and primarily distinguishable in that their singer offers not a throaty bellow of sad rage but a shrieky, phlegm-clotted gargle that?s not a million miles away from Nathan Misterek's. This is all good, large, heavy stuff that is rather a treat to listen to. Well done, people. (Alex/Collective Zine)

Daskinsey4 'so appropriate' LP ?8

Here is the debut LP by Brighton's Daskinsey4, Queer Garage Pop Punk that seems to be making waves after a great time at BBC Introducing The South Live Session, also playing loads of small D.I.Y gigs all over town as well as Brighton Pride & Brighton Trans Pride, so pick up the LP, learn the songs, then come sing a long up front. 300 copies made & comes with a small booklet Zine & download code. Featuring ex members of Abandon Ship and Burning Times. A co-release between the band, Tadpole Records & Tuff Enuff Records.

The Gutters 'eventually' LP ?8

I love this album! Guitar, drums and vocals, basic, basic punk. If you like your punk "crap", sort of Television Personalities/Desperate Bicycles kind of sound, but without the "artiness", just good songs, then this is for you. Genius really. (Steve/Urinal Records)

Sea Bastard 's/t' 2 x LP (tadpole, mosh tuneage, etc...) ?15 / CD ?5

I just learned that Sea Bastard have recorded their second album, which either means they have an admirable work ethic or I totally don?t because I was meant to review this ages ago. Maybe it?s a bit of both. Anyway, it?s no wonder it?s taken me a while to process this, their debut album, a monster double LP of five tracks, none of which dip below the ten minute mark. But let?s forget dry statistics because the key thing here is that this things just rolls by, its relentless momentum aided by a nice line in Wino-inspired chilled riffing, soulful and innately melodic. Things get hefty though, don?t you worry, with some starkly harsh upfront vocals screaming in your ear while monolithic slabs of riffs slam down Tetris-style. If you?re looking for references, think of the missing link between the pummel of High On Fire and the lava-flow of Sleep, perhaps erring towards the former. This is doom in the sense that there is a pervading sense of menace rather than that terribly boring slow-for-the-sake-of-slow which a slew of bands are doing right now. These guys are not rewriting the rulebook, but certainly giving it a good spell-check. Oliver also guitars for War Wolf who are very much in the same spirit but distilled to crystal-clear metal punk clarity, so check them out if time is of the essence. (Kunal/Collective Zine)

Whole In The Head 'them and us' 7" (tadpole, opiate, etc...) ?2.50

The final recordings of Southampton?s WITH are finally out, thanks to (Brighton) labels Tadpole and Opiate, plus another 4, making for a real collective effort to get this record out. And we should be thankful they have, because this is grade-a protest punk that?s screaming and raging with anger and defiance. The 7 blistering songs rally against the war machine, manipulation of nature for industrial (corporate) gain, class struggle and resistance, all delivered in severe blunt fashion. The record in encased in a big fold out Crass-inspired sleeve, loaded with imagery and information, linked to the songs. And reading the data it becomes clear that the issues raised, and hollered about, are not just some carbonised rehashed vague-global message, but in many cases are explained from a localised perspective, for example EDO (arms manufacturer) in Brighton, and the attempts by residents in Southampton to stop their local government and health authorities from adding fluoride to drinking water, under the guise of ?experimenting? with peoples health and well-being. Line of the record; ?Countryside Alliance ? bunch of cunts?; this is a right-leaning organisation formed and galvanised by one root rural concern; the banning of fox hunting, and the disastrous effect it was going to have on Rural Britain. But these self-centred fucks previously sat back and said nothing whilst the Tory party encouraged out-of-town supermarkets to kill off small (often rural) industries, and forced the closure of many rural post-offices and amenities. Barboured up, welly?d up, FWD driving? hypocritical wankers. Get this record  - (Pete/ZONKED ZINE)

here are a few reviews:

mention from Upset The Rhythm:
THE GUTTERS play raw stripped down garage punk from Portland U.S of A. Their auditory maelstrom is like taking a time machine to London in the late '70s, where every tinny punk had a band and everything was snarling and snotty. But the Gutters' tongue-in-cheek playfulness cuts those spiky allusions with fun vignettes, as found on their recent release "Should We Make a 7-Inch?" 7-inch. Other hilariously punk entitlements, such as beginning the song "Born in the Gutter" with "one, two, fuck you!" hint more at the duo's willingness to parade their love affair with the old guard than attempt to build upon it. This is all a-okay; the band's sewer serenades are a breath of fresh air, and at bite-sized intervals of roughly one to two minutes apiece, the Gutters are a fist-pumping hoot. Look out for their album on Tadpole Records too! http://thegutters.bandcamp.com/

THE GUTTERS ?Should We Make A Seven Inch?? 7?  (Tadpole)
Now this is great stuff; raw, stripped down punk that reminds me of early releases from The Fall, ATV and The Slits. It has that ?anyone can do it, fuck you? feel to it and I like that, in fact everything about it screams ?1977? at you, but it feels just right for 2012. This is the perfect antidote to those polished mainstream pop-rock bands that get called punk just because they play guitars and wear skinny jeans; this is the real deal and I?ve been playing it to death since it arrived.

review in RAZORCAKE:
THE GUTTERS : ?Should We Make a Seven Inch?: 7?
It?s 1978. Two trains leave separate stations at the same time traveling the same speed. One is coming from Hersham, traveling towards Bolton carrying the members of Sham 69; the other train is traveling the opposite route, carrying the gentlemen of The Buzzcocks. In one of the less reported mysteries of the railway era, the two trains collided in front of multiple witnesses just outside of Birmingham, only to reappear seemingly unscathed one hundred meters apart from each other down the track. One thing that is rarely discussed is what happened to the members of the two bands. While they were only gone from 1978 England for what felt like the blink of an eye, they were actually cosmically merged and transferred through space and time to 2012 Portland, Oregon where they became known as The Gutters. Retaining their penchant for pop hooks submerged in mischievous, bratty, punk rock, and, of course, their British accents, but expounding upon more current subjects such as trips to the 7-Eleven and denizens of the laptop state The Gutters brought a slice of honest working class England to a place rife with the petite charms of the bourgeoisie. Never a bad thing.
