Fucking incredible, never seen more mindblowing bands in one weekend. Totally blindsided me, I really had no idea what to expect. Cos yknow, I don't live in Australia. While I struggle to withstand the RAW EXPRESSION of drunk punks lobbing their half-finished beer cans through the crowd (what a powerfully subversive trend!), the weekend went largely untainted by bozos and buffoons. I just stayed the fuck out of the body-heaving masses like the one Hank Wood got on the secret Monday night show, which, conveniently, was a fucking incredible last night of my three-month trip. All those NYC guys are fucking heroically nice, too... I got along great with Emil from Hank Wood, who played one of the only awesome 'misc-experimental' sets I've witnessed in my limited experience. Other favs included Rule Of Thirds, UV Race, Terry, Repairs, and the Sunday day show bands. A non-fav was beefheaded brutes bashing eachother's brains, that was fucking dumb.

Seemed diverse, well-'curated', and not an overload of dumb punkery. Awkward staunchness was minimal.

AND THAT'S MY REVIEW

See you there tonight Michael. Let's catch up.
I'll be wear... ah fuck it, who am I kidding? Just look for the oldest guy there.

Bah, just saw this! If you're going to the Monday night show I'll be there, New Zealand-looking and probably in some introspective daze.

Michael M. - international terrorist.

Can't believe I harbored you. If I could unharbor, I would. I would quickly and decisively -- unharbor.

Have fun at yr punk fest. I hope you win the pony and get to ride all the rides.

New meaning to 'harbouring resentment.' Fuck you too, dad

Holy shit! Some benevolent festival organiser has overlooked the above pithy snark and welcomed me into the festival's embrace.

Martin Phillipps! The Kilgour Brothers! Chris Knox! Shayne Carter! David Mitchell! Alaistar Galbraith! Every member of the band the Dead C!

These great artists will go on to fulfil every promise within the remainder of their legacies, unblemished by a needless and untimely death!

I've been trying to get a ticket to this damn thing for months... first marred by my own unstable income while on tour, now marred by tickets selling out weeks ahead of the shows, wildly unforeseen by my inept former self. Now, the event page is literally littered with punk kids (and grown-ups like, ahem, myself) trying to score last minute tickets.

Should I grow a mullet and attempt to blend in with the crowd? Should I be in several famous bands? Should I milk any and all exotic charm so reliably proven to be lapped up by American fans with full-time jobs? Such is the Melbourne way, it seems, but none feel a right guarantee for this unwelcomed NZer. Despo times call for despo measures, so I must resort to threats:

Who is the real winner here? The real winner is aptly-named punk festivals. If my weekend continues en route, I'll be exemplifying just what festival names like Maggot Fest and Berserktown say punk is all about: Chilling out and having many showers.

Oh, and Noisey. (not bitter. i just burn bridges for fun!)

this is one of those things where no matter what side people are on, and no matter how worked up they get, when the dust settles, everyone comes off looking like a conservative

THE TRANSISTORS - Cuppa Jarra Bossa

It's punk, with an accent! Yep, big punchy stuff with a gaping access-point that any old listener could crawl through. Recorded via MIC's secretive Alpaca Technique, which as usual means somebody's bluffed their way through this and it's worked. "I've Been Stupid" is a song title you'll be able relate to if you don't buy this thing. It MUST be thrashed!

THE DANCE ASTHMATICS - Lifetime Of Secretion

The boys are back, auditory hallucinations and all. Besides the usual derivations from PiL and Throbbing Gristle, certain listeners have detected a John Cage influence on this one. Just as the abstractions have intensified, Steve's deadpan drawl has outright gone all hoarse on itself. Get on it, get off on it.

SALAD BOYS - Metalmania

We're enlightened to announce that the truck-lovin' Salad Boys have signed to Trouble In Mind in Chicago and have released their first LP, 'Metalmania', worldwide. It can be bought here.

TIM MOORE - Rough As Guts

Let the name-on-the-sleeve titlehood not unsurprise you -- these are esoteric whims that have rippled their way into forming eight imaginative 'dirges', recorded 5 long years ago (before the Christchurch earthquakes!) and only just released now.

CENTER NEGATIVE - Emotion Is Cringey

Self-punk from an outsider who hangs out inside a lot. Made with the magic of an old reel-to-reel machine, a technique some other bands probably used at some point. Tags: 'popular' 'music'.

WURLD SERIES / JIM NOTHING Split Cassette

News about the LP, via MUZAI records:

GIRLS PISSING ON GIRLS PISSING - Scrying in Infirmary Architecture
Released by MUZAI Records from September 4th on 12" vinyl and digital.

An amalgamation of avant-garde "rock" (in the loosest sense of the word) and art has long been the modus operandi of Auckland group Girls Pissing on Girls Pissing; such a union once against presents itself to the public once more as the long awaited follow-up to Eeling finally sees the light of day -- Scrying in Infirmary Architecture is released on gate-fold vinyl/art book and digitally from September 4th 2015.

Having taken almost two years to complete, from the recording process with Joshua Lynn and the mastering process from Douglas Pawati, through to the art direction from the band themselves with the inclusion of said art book, Scrying in Infirmary Architecture boasts not only singles "A Fraud, Abroad" and the more recent "Rainbow Islands", but perhaps some of the more accessible works from the group who's name dare not be uttered on commercial radio...

Those who look past the name as perhaps something to connote the idea of "mostly blokes pissing around" (to quote Everett True -- The Guardian) will discover an album of otherworldly desires; traversing between transgressive ("Darwinning"), ritualistic ("Scissoring") and gregarious ("A Fraud, Abroad", "Rainbow Islands"), Scrying in Infirmary Architecture demonstrates a band that refuses to be confined to preconceived directions what they "should" be and instead, in pure iconoclastic fashion, rebels against music industry "dogma".

Having built up a loyal congregation throughout New Zealand and Europe based off their caustic live performances and dalliances with radio across the antipodes, Girls Pissing On Girls Pissing have often been cited as "caustic", "haunting" and, every now and again, compared to the experimental folk movement (we, as a label, are unsure why -- but thanks). Having generated a cult following "down under", Scrying in Infirmary Architecture looks to capture audiences in the Northern Hemisphere as seeking to break out from the insularity being on an island in the South Pacific often entails.
