Hah wow, me and Civil Union got obsessed with 'Michael And The Slipper Tree' when they played a pool hall in Austin this last July -- wonder if the DJ was a Termbro.

Jesus, when the fuck is there gonna be a documentary that actually respects itself enough to take down all these mythic impressions and sacred icons within punk? (etc etc etc?) I mean: one that stops taking itself so seriously and instead does the world a favour by framing the Notable Rock Band as actual, fallible humans. Shit, even if it WAS rollins or thurston who did the talking, at least it'd be entertaining to hear em say "yeah, Husker Du was bad."

Same goes for 'rock books'. You never read books that go "well, actually, [insert dudes] were actually kinda shitty" -- but when you do see 'em, it's way more interesting. I wanna be turned against my favourite bands, goddammit! Why does every fucking one of these documentaries on the planet have to be a punk 101 at best and a sermon at worst?

Oh yeah, because money.

Nah I'm not trying to say it's too personal or sensitive for his fans/enthusiasts/followers to know anything about -- I just didn't want to pass on information that hadn't been verified, or spread rumours.

What I do know is that he definitely did not pass away in NYC; it was shortly after his return to Auckland, as the above linked Stuff.co.nz article mentions. A google search on the day of his death also suggested that suicide was the cause of death, but I don't know anything more than that.

I talked to him at the first of those two NYC shows -- he said he'd come to New York to "make some money", whatever that means. I thought Captured Tracks might've flown him in on their private jet to talk Snapper reissues.

I've heard rumours about the death itself but better not to spread things I can't verify. Nothing worth caring about more than the dude's awesome life.

TEAM UGLY just put out their (who am I kidding, our) second EXTENDED PLAYING RECORD (it's a tape). The name of this exciting EP is 'Meat Prize'.

And some people called ANTO PASCO have done a thing -- an album, specifically:

https://meltedicecream.bandcamp.com/album/plastic-dream

And as always, this stuff is available digitally or on cassette tape. Nope, no vinyl.

http://meltedicecream.co.nz/ is where you should go for more New Zealand punk &/or DIY.

I messaged one of 'em on FB and he told me they're putting out an LP of unreleased stuff this year!
