Non-Music Shit / Re: Dispatches from Osaka, Japan
« on: September 26, 2006, 04:10:43 AM »
Steve:

I love the Futures, recorded and live, but they play more around Kobe than Osaka.  Their 11-minute set is actually worth the 2000 I am paying for most shows.

I'll keep my eyes open for Happy Party Adventure gigs.  I got a flyer from the Gallon Flipper Bounce dude at the show on Sunday night, so I was aware of that show with Prambath.  Are they really worth it?  Realizing that I'm not paying $7-8 for shows anymore has already made me re-think going to a few.  I'm still going to see the Casualties this Saturday though!!

Sukebe:

I will make sure to check for garage-looking flyers when I'm at Time Bomb.  I like to try and go at least once a week, so hopefully I'll be on top of things.  Today I picked up a flyer for The Flakes/Jackie and the Cedrics/Frantic Stuffs/etc show on 10/30.  I won't be going, since I work 6:40-10:50 that night, but it's a Time Bomb production, I think.

Ahaha Sukebe, good post!  Teach me all the current Japanese garage bands now...I know Frantic Stuffs and all those Needle bands, but are there more?  I got the JOHNNY ROCKETS CDR the other day - like a minor league NIHON NOUEN.  I'm afraid I am missing some good shows here in Osaka just because I don't know the new bands...

If I ever have the money for a ride down to Hiroshima I will let you know, but I think I am gonnna be in Osaka, Kyoto & Kobe for the next few months until I get on my feet with money here.

For those that don't know and probably don't care - I've moved from the Washington DC area to Japan.

Somehow it's even harder to find good garage shows here than it was back at home!  I don't get it.

Whatever man!

1) That Righteous Jams track fits GREAT after the Technocracy track
2) I included a note that said if she didn't like that song, she should start lifting weights and she'll understand it in four weeks

The full length is a good listen.  I did find myself liking the stuff I already knew a bit more than the stuff I didn't, especially the uninterrupted version of Baiting the Public.  David Comes to Life is really good, Jacob's Ladder is sweet, and Hidden World's whistling beats the whistling in Looking for Gold, but they did change something in Invisible Leader where the guitars sounded good into something where the guitars are all out of key and wacky sounding.  A personal bummer, but what does that matter to anybody else?

yup. i was gonna bid $15 dollars on this one...

I'm sure this $120 auction was just a fluke but wow, I picked up a copy of this from the store a few months ago.

I managed to get my Bad Times for around $15 + shipping, I think.

At least the high prices of a Carbonas record is a good example of people paying a lot of money for a record that actually has great music on it and isn't just stupid rare.

I picked up the Capcom Classics Collection for my ps2 when I was sick a week or two ago.  I've mostly been playing Ghosts N Goblins or Super Ghouls N Ghosts.  I am pretty skilled at regular Ghouls N Ghosts, since I got that when I was a kid and had a Genesis.  But these two...damn this shit is tough when you get older.
