Not to mention anal-retentive assholes like me

I like to keep my gear looking good...
Cell reception sucks where I live, so I still have a land-line. Tonight, I moved a phone from one room to another and noticed it had some kind stain on the console unit.
First I tried ordinary spray cleaner, but that didn't touch it. Next I tried Rubbing Alcohol on a rag, but that didn't work either.
Since the phone was in my utility room, I started to suspect the stain was dried Super Glue. Knowing it would eat the plastic a little and fuck up the finish, I removed the stain with Acetone and a clean cloth.
Then, I did the
Re-Polishing job using these products.
-
Scotchbrite (first dry, then followed by damp with Rubbing Alcohol)
-
Simichrome Polish (following 'Instructions' on label)
The green Scotchbrite you usually find at the store is pretty COARSE, so for plastics it works better if you first wear it down a bit on the sink or something. If you can find it, the FINER gray Scotchbite is just about right the way it's made. The MUCH FINER white Scotchbite is for cleaning, so it doesn't do much of anything to most surfaces, including plastic.
If the original surface was smooth, this will restore it to basically new. If it's pebbled or has some other texture, it will be smoothed somewhat, depending on how hard you go at it with the Scotchbrite. Either way, you will probably have to try it to find the combination that works best for you.
Hope this helps.
