Saw "Tonya" on screener, pretty awkward and incomplete seeming. I don't understand the positive reception except I spose 90s true-crime revival. -- The clippits at the end (of the real-life players) also ask the question how can you improve on that stuff.

"American Made" was pretty great, huh.

At the dry cleaners they had "Sliding Doors" on, which ... What an inexplicable movie. Terribly made in every respect but something? Where can I find the Frederic Jameson capsule on it.

"Heartbreak Kid" ('72) didn't do it for me, but then I thought "You've Got Mail" is (also) better than "Shop Around The Corner".

And there's Joe / Volcano.

I did not enjoy John Wick 1, 2, or 1 1/2 (Atomic Blonde), but I watched all of em somehow and love HK action flicks, and, say, one Bourne movie so what gives. Something about movies that are obviously designed to be video games, with emphasis on headshots, a proprietary coin-currency, "home base", the sniper level ...

"Sleepless in Seattle" has a better name but "You've Got Mail" is the better film.

The first YG record I've really liked a lot is "YNS".

Also "Wildin'" by Trouble/TI. "Porch" by OMB Peezy (conspicuously cheap production and all) and "Woke Up" by Dae Dae.

Suspiria is by far the best Argento but I see why it'd be disappointing if you wanted a horror movie and not say an Italian gothic Seijun Suzuki.

I always say this but for some weird reason "Streets of Baltimore" by Bare is mine, though sorta -politan for this venue perhaps.

This is obvious but I will make a largeish claim that Branded Man and Strangers-era Merle is among the greatest.

When you listen to early early Willie it's quite clear why it was perfect for Patsy Cline.

And there are few songs better than the original "Amarillo by Morning."

Yeah I feel you about the Peaks on all points. No spoilers but Jacoby delivers next time and there are some very Lost Highway vignettes coming your way if you're into that.

New Twin Peaks is insane in the best way.

At some point my friend DensityDuck went down the TP wikihole, told me all sorts of theories about Silencio being "another entrance to the Black Lodge" and stuff like that. I talked to him again for a sec after this aired and I guess it didn't iron out but it makes me think in another way this really is Mulholland Drive comes to Twin Peaks. And him using normal fancy digital film looks so great. Though then there's the part where Lynch is talking to Miggie Ferrer and there's a like heavy blue fliter, and Miguel is like (speaking of the Cooper case) "It's a classic Blue Rose, isn't it?" Cole: "COULDN'T BE MORE BLUE, ALBERT."

riverdale has like 89% on rotten tomatoes. hows that, it sucks. whats the point in making up an entirely new show and naming all the characters after a old comic? to get some of that comiccon-nostalgia money? jughead and betty? whats the point. jughead doesn't even have a whoopiecap. reviews are saying it was inspired by twin peaks. empty gesture. all the parents are playing out some 90210 soap opera and the kids are trying to solve a murder mystery

It is truly terrible. Jughead does have a whoopie-beanie though.

It's funny, "Bad and Boujee" is in the bottom-5 songs on the record. The one part that is good, really good, is only the third part of Quavo's verse when he starts the DAT WAY. The rest of the album is fantastic, though. You can't possibly think the production on those mixtapes or their songwriting is better, on the whole. Or the raps. By standards, maybe Takeoff on "Fight Night" but uh

Well, "Call Casting" for starters. It's weird, tho. "Mask Off" is great n all. But you need the whole sequence. I don't get people who can watch sports highlights. What does it all mean.

Future lards it up it's true, but "POA" > "Mask Off" is as good or better than anything yet. Or the most just now. Still, that's like how how he buried "Blood On The Money," which was in certain ways it seems to me the predictive floot loop. Anyway this makes Migos' achievement more amazing. 10 songs out of 14 or something like that.

Kodak's album is also pretty great but requires a separate post.

Ghod, Thug on "Sacrifices." Actually, Quavo's part on "Portland" then Chainz then Thug on "Sacrifices." I hope he starts interleaving that style of flow with his more typical these days madcap birdsong.

Migos "Culture" still the album of the year.

I have only heard "Humble" like three times and I already detest it with all my being.

..but this series seems so...white

Oh it is.

Fargo S03 almost seems like an experiment to see just how much Noah can get away with. I like the cop lady though.

I watched Riverdale, somehow.
