roky erickson "gremlins have pictures" - listened to this four times in a row last night, with extra attention payed to 'Song for Abe Lincoln' and 'Anthem (I Promise)'. love the hard rock on "the evil one" obviously but these acoustic numbers are somethin else.

"lucifer and the mother of witches", that line fuckin kills me.

been going thru some severe budgetary constraints for the past few months so I've mostly been taping things off the internet and eating mr noodles.

solaris - the waves of the evernow. just listening to this right now, heard a track on brian turner the other day. very hawkwind/deep purple sounding psych from 73 chicago. so far my reaction is to say something like A+++. I'm about 1 minute into the first track. full album: https://soundcloud.com/numerogroup/sets/solaris-the-waves-of-the-evernow

new order - movement. been hitting this shit hard for the first time recently. have got as far as brotherhood. also been watching this 81 concert a bunch: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YOOijUEEQTI  - before peter hook honed his powerful trademark air hump that soils the 85 concert I've also been watching.

eric's trip - the eric's trip show. a live cd of a band I have loved, criticized, and stolen from creatively for many years. big fan of mark gaudet's drumming; wish most of chris thompson's songs didn't make me wanna puke, he's got some good ones though. then again rick's got some songs that me wanna puke too, and I guess I like him even more for it. fuuuuck.

UPDATE: that solaris album is only A++ at best.

only heard quark and strangeness once but I distinctly remember a sound that neither myself nor anyone in my company could comprehend as real... didn't know speakers could make sounds like that.

been on the fence about this one. at first I thought it was hilarious, then someone read me his public appeal via facebook and I was seriously bummed but not surprised that the CBC would fire someone because of what kind sex they have. sure has come a long way from a station that made shows like the kids in the hall. I still thought it was hilarious though, and my girlfriend and I started referring to any sex beyond missionary as "jian style". apparently more women have come out against him though, saying he claimed to want to "hate fuck" them, also hilarious I know, but also very evil depending on the context. basically I don't care what happens to jian, if he's a creepy perv he's on his own, he can burn for all I care, but if he's just a dude who likes bdsm or gettin freaky with consensual partners then his getting fired is another seriously sad decline in the "cultural hub" of canada. only time will tell.

just thinking about the cbc bums me out.

I'm a fan of some nova scotian stuff like Nightfall and Pagan Hellfire. Have some good tapes from the label run by the dude in Nightfall too, Cold Northern Blood.

Whoa weird. Halfway thru A Feast of Snakes and Atrocity Exhibition is on deck. Just read a great Ballard interview so picked it up cheap, dunno why I've never read it. Concrete Island is good. Feast is merely OK so far.

Weird thing about Ballard in his interviews is how fuckin straight the dude is. Really comes off as your standard bourgeois english intellectual, which is great considering how popular he is in the underground in general. I definitely get a kick out thinking of him taking his kids to school, going home, taking a shot of whisky and writing something like Crash. Obviously you don't have to be a junkie to write far out shit. He did love Burroughs though...

Atrocity Ex. is definitely my favourite of his; had to read it twice in order to get anything out of it though, other than an "aesthetic experience" hahaa. It's actually a pretty straightforward plot-wise I just didn't follow some very simple rules - like the main character has a slightly different name in every chapter, and a good chunk of the action takes place in his head. I feel like if Ballard were alive today and still writing the way he did in the 60's he'd be pumping out short stories about sexual obsessions and murder fantasies with Edward Snowden and Obama in the hot seats.
