Non-Music Shit / Re: Stand-up comedy

Also true on seeing Neil Hamburger live. Never really thought he was that funny (except the prank calls) and avoided seeing him for years (even though he shows up at the Cactus Club down the road regularly), but I finally went to check him out last year and it was hilarious.

i went to that cactus club show (if you're talking the one in the fall) because there wasn't a chicago date, and it was a pretty great show. cool to see him in such a fucking small room - someone who i gathered was there because he heard of him through tenacious d was present and talking to him while i was checking out the merch table - was asking if it was weird to play madison square garden and also play a small show like that - neil (or gregg, as he wasn't "dressed" yet) his answer was something along the lines of he probably would make more that night than the madison square garden show, and then he gave out a very modest financial number in which he got paid to play a SOLD OUT tenacious d show at MSG... but said that for a show that massive he would do it for 5 dollars, if that's all they were willing to pay... his most recent LP (hot february nights) has a lot of good stuff with him agitating the tenacious d fans whole doing 40 minutes before they played.

Non-Music Shit / Re: SPARKS and SYNCHRONICITY THEORY
« on: November 20, 2011, 01:45:34 PM »
shit like this happens to me all of the time. non sparks related however.   synchronicity is real, but i'm not sure why.... i say that a lot.

non serious/non sparks but but still funny example:  on a looooooooong van ride with some friends after they played a show in a college town, we were on a long and empty piece of road for what was at least an hour - this was about 10:30 am on a sunday so i assume everyone that were occupants of the tiny town we were driving through were still at church.. really, there were maybe 10-15 cars that made their way alongside us on somewhat of highway driving for a whole hour. well we were sick of cds so we were going through the radio and landed on some slightly okay pop station, which we listened to for a bit.. eventually it's huey lewis and the news "back in time", you know, the song that they did for back to the future or at least was a tie-in for it. a car in the next lane slightly speeds up and when it is going faster than us i notice the license plate, something along the lines of "BK II FUTR"  it was both weird and hilarious.

Anyone who still appreciates "Get A Life" probably grew up a special needs kid just like the character on the show.

Chris Elliot is funny in a bunch of other shit tho for sure.
i tried watching the get a life vol. 1 dvd again a few months ago, then sold it on ebay. i got it for free ten years ago so it definitely went up in value as it sold for something like 40 bucks.  cabin boy is still a pretty awesome movie though. some of get a life is probably funny.

I think it ruled. Definitely as funny as it ever was. My only complaint is there wasn't any hating on any of the music like there used to be. If something like MGMT was played for them before, they would have been yelling "this sucks" and shit like that, rather than just commenting on just the video alone.

not only was that a huge sell out moment, can you really accept that there's two kids watching music videos on mtv in 2011? think about that for a sec. i know they don't have good cable at that house.
cmon now.. they live in a cartoon world where cable means anything! in old episodes they did the 'this sucks, change it!" thing often - only to tune into yet another channel... i guess it could have been vh1, but back in the 90s all vh1 played was adult contemporary, so uhh, nope.  they just get whatever music channels they get.  i thought the moment where beavis said every child molester he ever met looked like that and butt-head just stared at him was great. also beavis going into what season of teen mom the mgmt video had to be because he has seen all of season one and two... that's pretty great

they showed up on liquid television around the time i was 9 or 10, and then when they got the show when i was 11 or 12 it was like a dream come true - especially since they ran the new episodes daily (i think i mentioned it)

i will be honest in saying i didn't stay that enthusiastic during the whole run - i stopped taping them around the time the movie came out (i went and saw it in the theater on christmas that year and liked it - didn't love it as i would have if it came out two years before that - but it's a good movie) and then i stopped watching during the last couple seasons. i'd catch a few, and think well it's cool they are still on, but i'm kind of over it... then when i did the revisit the whole series a few years ago that changed and as an adult i realized how smart of a show it was...  aside from a few things updated in the style (the poster on the chalkboard was one of them) and the new videos/tv show bits, it feels like they just picked up where they left off. 'beavis and butt-head are dead' (and the surrounding promotional commercials with mike judge as a backwoods hick who has to kill them) is one of the greatest series finales that has existed on television.. turns out it was only a season finale! some things probably need to come back, and these guys are amongst them

heard it's supposed to happen next summer, but also that they haven't decided if they're going to split the season in half due to its slightly extended length... nothing set in stone yet though i don't think

This show always leaves people grasping at straws and suggesting the most ridiculous theories.
is it valid to geek out over some of these theories now?

if, and i guess it might be a big if, the bear=gus in the long run (it could have been something written later based on the bear) walt kept that eye for some reason. were vince and his six writers thinking that far ahead? it would be pretty awesome if they were (he did come from a background in x-files... ps - lone gunmen had a brief spinoff, how about a 'skinny pete and badger' six-eight episode miniseries?) and i suppose that would lead to walt holding onto the eye = walt being in charge. which he is, or at least he has himself convinced that he is.
