Aug 27- Royal Headache, Sheer Mag, Young Trynas, Quitter @ Windup Space

Stoked for this. Sheer Mag is playing dc but it's the same night as the BBQ show so this makes decisions easier.

Well yeah, and it's not like that's Jordan's only "signature moment" for fucksakes, or even the leading one.

I think the hand switch is pointless but a pretty shot. The other signature shot is over Bryan Russell and an offensive foul. Really the signature of his career is the flu game.

I had really high hopes for this show after the first episode but it never fully panned out. It kind of felt like they really didn't know what to do with the story. In the end the music was one of the better parts.

Velvet Underground - Sunday Morning. I work almost every Sunday at 7am and for some reason listen to this song on the bus each week. As far as rituals go I could do a lot worse.

Buck Biloxi - Microsoft Paint Windows 97 cassette. Ripped this off YouTube a year or so ago. One of my favorite releases of his. Making me look forward to getting the new lp in the mail.

My ex wife loved circus peanuts. The looks I used to get buying them for her in random stores while on road trips were priceless.

Non-Music Shit / Re: what are you reading?

I read Where They Ain't a long time ago and need to re-read it. I basically have two stacks of books to read, baseball and all other books. Before Orioles Magic I read The Book: Playing the Percentages in Baseball. Really great read for any stat nerds out there. It basically takes the accepted "knowledge" passed through the ages and looks at it from a sabr metrics view. It's actually well written for what is really just 350 or so pages of theorems and solutions.

The Most Dangerous Animal of All: Searching For My Father And Finding The Zodiac Killer

Exactly what it says in the title: true story of an adopted fellow who went looking for his biological father and discovered compelling evidence that his father was the Zodiac Killer. Great read.

Damn, adding that to my list.

Currently in my annual baseball book stage of the summer. Reading Orioles Magic about the 83 birds. Not bad but as a huge Orioles fan who slightly remembers that series I am inclined to like it.

Anyone else think the NBA needs to tidy up their tv rights to avoid these week and a half breaks between series?  Seems like most years we have one of these long breaks and it kills any excitement going into the series.

Army of Shadows is heavy.

Inherent Vice is my favorite Anderson movie. But it's such a faithful Pynchon riff that it almost feels like he directed the movie. I don't think anyone could've done a better job, and as far as living American directors go, Anderson is up there with the Coens and Lynch (who doesn't make movies anymore).

That is a much better way of saying what I meant when I said its his least PT Anderson movie. You can tell he is a huge fan of the book and just wanted to do a faithful adaptation of the story. Agree he was the best director to make that movie. It's spot on and hilarious in the right places. Like his other movies I think it will get better the more you watch it.

Another director I've been voracious with lately is Godard, though not for his unbeatable consistency during any era - rather how forward-forging and interesting he's always been. Goodbye to Language in 3D was ace if you like that sort of thing. I think everything came together best for him in Band of Outsiders; the attention to theory and style, the pathos and the energy.

Band of Outsiders is such a great movie. I love Godard but have always been more of a Melville man myself. Army of Shadows is one of my favorite movies.

Just watched Inherent Vices. I liked it a lot, but by far his least PT Anderson movie (if that makes any sense).
