Ride For Revenge were mentioned earlier in this thread, they had an album out in 2017 which was very pleasing to my ears: https://rideforrevenge.bandcamp.com/track/soul-abortion

heavy on the doom/sludge style, great raw production particularly on the drums.

I?ve only listened to three songs on the new Hank Wood but it sounds better than what I remember of their second LP.

Also, I keep getting distracted at the thought that it sounds like he?s delivering some lines doing a Tupac impression.

his sometimes ultramagnetic-esque delivery is the best thing about the hammerheads, imo. On first listen I like this one a lot more than the last lp, the production makes a huge difference.

I am bummed it's not titled Phone Home or something to keep the gag running

A++ title idea. And yeah his delivery/intonation is a big part of the magic - probably one of the best live shows I've ever attended too. Top 5 at least.

I think the first time I saw 'em was at a secret 2 AM show at 529 here and it was very incredible. They are devastating live.

Stoked to see them again in april. Really loving how loud and prominent the guitars are on this record.

I think they're one of those bands where the key is seeing them in a small venue/after hours setting. First saw them right after the LP got hot in Rochester in a smallish room with tons of Rotcore mutants rioting with bouncers and dancing/falling over, Henry was mid-crowd the whole time and it might have been the most perfect "punk" show I've ever been at.

Later times seeing them after/around the second LP in big rooms/fest atmosphere they were a little underwhelming. But I dont think any band could live up to that first show.

I've only seen them once and it was this show. It was a weekday show where people had come from all over the area and wanted to go to bed early, and for some reason it was taking them a while to set up, so the energy in the room was kind of "you'd better fucking deliver because it's late". And as soon as they started to play we could tell it would be one of the best nights ever. You can see it in the video above, the start of the set. They proceeded to play every song they knew for 1+ hour because we wouldn't let them leave. That's a show you don't forget!
Yeaah I saw them a few nights before that show, in london... dawn of humans on same bill, def the best punk show I saw this decade!

The Quietus publishes some very good writing -- I always enjoy Ned Raggett's work, for instance -- but their reviews are strictly garbage, and the example above is not only tone-deaf and dumbass in its attempts to discuss "sexiness" apropos of this nondescript band, but it reads like the author is a ringer paid for by Rough Trade or whomever (which isn't true, of course.)
Yes that's probably fair, it is the articles rather than the reviews that are usually strongest.

Im just defending the website as a whole, because its probably the best music writing we've got at the moment! And an ethically run organisation, done for the right reasons. And, inevitably, they are currently struggling finacially, and I'd be sad to see it go

I reckon the Quietus has my favourite music writing at the moment. Obv there is some shit, but really the standard of writing is amazingly high on the whole; and they tread the line between intelligence and pretention very well.

I bloody loved/love pavement, but they had a terribly negative (and anti punk) influence on bands of the 2000s

ohh i just remembered she also gave me a comp tape with big black, the pixies and the stupids on one side and a load of bad brains on the other, and a live bootleg tape of jesus lizard, and she had this french boyfriend who made me a comp tape of a load of hardcore band that i can't remember.... tape definitely played more part in my punk foundation than vinyl, even tho i was buying vinyl since i was 14 or so

They played one of the songs in this video the other night as a Portland bar I was at where a lot of punks n graffiti writers hang out but also a lot of hot girls and college type kids. Everyone was doing coke and there were some hot girls dancing.  :)
That hand style is totally mesmerising
