Ok ok I’ll bite. What the heck was Greg’s book about?

I thought it was going to be about human evolution, but it was some shit about ants, some shit about 80's LA punk and his final conclusion that the only thing he has "faith" in is that his wife probably loves him. Just some anti-God shit. Very boring: I was reading about human evolution/mating/evo psych at the time (which is fascinating, especially if you have dated a lot as a kid) and was expecting this to be along the same lines. Doesn't really touch on human evolution but more on plants and insects. Very bland.

I read a bunch of books about evolutionary psychology and evolution a few years back; one of them was Greg's book. The most boring of the bunch I read by far. I dunno. Bad Religion was never my thang.

again:

Social D: The guy you fuck when you are 20 and he doesn't have a car or a job.

Descendants: The guy you move in with when you are 32.

That is all.

(Walks into the room wearing a cowboy hat, western style t-shirt and smoking a Camel)

Ah, the old Descendants vs. Social D. debate, huh? I remember talking shit like this in prison. Carlos was for Milo, I was for Mike.

Let me tell you motherfuckers, it didn't end well for Carlos.

Has anybody seen my woman? She's five feet tall, blonde and wearing a polka dot dress. If I hear any of you motherfuckers touched her, it's gonna be a rough night in L.A.

(Stares at you, mashes cigarette out on his arm, walks out of the room)

Here's my favorite Social D memory.  Sometime in '91 or '92, they played this big rock club in Cleveland.  Usual tough crowd, it's Cleveland, better bring a good game.  The club used a spotlight aimed at whoever played the solo part of a particular song, whatever.  3rd or 4th song in, spotlight is on the 2nd guitar guy, can't remember his name, and someone started doing shadow puppets on his chest.  Dude got pissed, threw down his guitar and stormed off stage.  Ended the early night at some ham and egg diner.

Did that motherfucker not know who the motherfuck he was motherfucking with?

Descendants were way less cheesy than Social D. IMO. Also, as someone I talked to recently posited, the Blink/Green Day/pop revolution that went on in the 2000's...they had a huge influence on that sound. Very few bands mimmick the Social D. crap. Maybe some rockabilly guy.

Apples vs. Oranges, IMO.

Of course, in clown world, SOcial D. was waaaaaaaaaaay more successful than The Descendants.

(Picks up Les Paul, lights cigarette)

Been working on a new song....

My old man
taught me the way
cigarette burns on my arm
every day
A juvenile delinquent
doing time
loving her
was my only crime

Yeah...I was a youth gone wild

Learning to box
learning to fight
down in East L.A.
every night
She said she loved me
she said she cared
in one drunken night
she vanished in thin air

Yeah...I was a youth gone wild

Been to prison
been to jail
my old lady
never paid my bail
lessons learned
scars that never heal
my love for her
is all I can feel

Yeah...I was a youth gone wild

(Stops cigarette out on the ground, slicks back hair)

Alright, gents. Let's cool it with the fighting. I don't want things to get physical around here. And if they do, I've been taking old school boxing lessons down the block.

You wanna shake hands? Or do I have to handle this like we did in prison?

Still working on the 57'...she needs an oil change. After I get done playing my Gretsch Hollowbody, I will probably finish that up. Jesus, my   neck hurts...still waiting for my "Bad Ass Motherfucker" tattoo I got on it to heal. Damn! This things hurts.

Watching those Mexican kids outside...if they touch the Chevy, they are going down. Lou, the old timer at the boxing ring, has been giving me 50's style boxing lessons.

Actually, I first learned how to box in prison. But that's another story for another time.

Looking around...where did I put that Eddie Cochran record I won in a fist fight? Damn, I gotta clean up this 1950's style L.A. bungalo I live in sometime.

Well, that's it for me. Sipping a beer, hoping you guys are having a good night.

Keep your eye out for those Mexican kids...

I have pretty vivid memories of hanging out with punksters in the late 90's, and I was always under the impression that "Live at the Roxy" was responsible for whatever comeback they were having. Whatever year that came out. I have very vivid memories of people cranking that album during car rides, and punker chicks fawning over how hot Mike Ness still was. It basically served as a greatest hits collection and got people into some of the old "Mommy's" stuff.

1998 dipshits thought this was "real punk" and Mike Ness's speeches in between songs served to amplify the fact that they were the "real deal".

Now if you will excuse me, I have to go work on m 57' Chevy. Old lady left me and I just got out of prison. Hold up, some Mexican kids are fucking with my vehicle...I better go out there and kick some ass. Been taking old school boxing lessons for awhile.

Yeah, that solo shit was horrible. Just for context, the "Live at the Roxy" record did really well and there was a Social D. resurgence around 1999. Plus the neo-rockabilly shit was huge. So I think his ego was primed to make a solo LP....that tanked.

Guy has always been such an asshole.

Saw Kevin K WITH Lure on a bill at a bar ten years ago. Lure hung out with my friends and I after and got shitfaced. Told us stories of 77' punk. Later took off to drive to his hotel room drunk as a skunk, as did my friends and I. No idea how I am still alive.

Ness is foolish for not writing "Another State of Mindfulness: A Mike Ness Guide to Buddhism".

Non-Music Shit / Re: Near Death Experiences....

I'll tell you guys a funny story: I was a bar hound as a kid, and one night, I was sitting next to this older woman who had very obvious, huge fake breasts. We were just kind of shooting the shit. She was probably 48-50. Two other men kept coming up to her and buy her a drink; they were both probably about fifty, as well. They didn't seem to see me as any kind of serious threat, but were both giving each other the death glare as they kept coming up to her and offering to buy drinks, have her sit by them, etc.

Eventually, they both walk over at the same time and get into a massive fight. Threatening harm, etc. It ended up turning into death threats, at which point I'm afraid one will go after me.

This is all over a 50 year old woman who was....hot, but not worth dying over. Complete stranger to both.

Next thing you know (I guess bartender had already called cops) a cop walks in, tazes the bigger of the two guys and hauls him off the jail. The other guy beats it. Dude literally fell to the ground and was shaking and they dragged him out. I just sit there, calm as can be.

20 minutes later, I'm back at the 50 year old's apartment, rubbing some fake titty in her bed with a whiskey by my side.
