Music Shit / Re: TERMBO UPDATE THREAD
« on: August 17, 2017, 04:55:07 PM »
Thank you for the long-running community. I'm new to posting here, and I took a break for 5 years or so, but I've been reading your blog/stuff forever.

As a newbie to the forum, I'm a bit of a 'whale' with a lot of catching up. I've been spending most of my money on records, as I dig through various threads. Some of these threads are a decade old!

The distros that flock here... I've spent hundreds at many of them in the last few months.

My life is totally fucked right now, but having this place is such a relief. My girlfriend laughs at me when I tell her 'I'm hanging out on the forums' (mostly lurking). She says I'm being an aspie and you guys aren't 'real life friends'.

Girlfriend said I was being sad and dumb. Threatened to get me this.

Thank you. Please don't stop!

Music Shit / Re: Erik Nervous comp?
« on: August 17, 2017, 04:35:43 AM »
Not very good music. Don't do it. Very boring + generic trash DIY sound. Just being real. A lot of hyped punk bands tend to be complete and utter bullshit.

On the off chance this isn't a troll account...

Erik Nervous started this topic. Not everyone here is going to agree that any one artist is great. However, the general consensus around here is that Erik Nervous is 'rookie of the year' last year, a fresh and genuine take. I haven't seen him 'hyped' anywhere outside of these forums, the distros that post here, and the zine/blog that spawned these forums. Admittedly, I haven't looked hard.

However, the thrust of his question wasn't about "should Erik Nervous release more music?" Rather, he was asking if it's okay to release a compilation of already available singles. This thread isn't about taste in music, it was a rookie artist asking about 'best practices', and perhaps gauging interest.

That first one is fucking perfect. Looks like the left side has drawers for 45's too.

I'm in the same boat right now. I even went to Walmart and bought a $25 shit-tier bookcase. The cardboard-grade shelves started sagging immediately, so I had to arrange it in a stupid way.

I'd be willing to spend 500 on something as good as that first picture. I'd prefer to spend 100 though, on something reasonable.

Oh, one other question. Do you see the way they have their turntable on top of the record storage? Every time you start to dig through the collection, you'd jostle the needle and fuck up the song. My girlfriend wasn't aware, and didn't put 2 and 2 together that those loud ass thuds were her doing. What's the best practice for the record player itself, by itself, no?

Sounds good. Looks like I already had a little cart on your site. This will make me pull the trigger.

Side question, is that image an optical illusion of some sort? If I scroll down slowly, like one down-arrow press at a time, the lines jump.

Snagged, thanks.

Every so often I tell myself, I'll give this band a shot. It never stick before. I was too young the first few times, too lost in their catalog to wade through it properly, too turned off by hipster obsession, (was probably too happy?) etc.

I did this with The Replacements too. Kept getting recommendations to listen to them... All I heard when I was a teenager was Goo Goo Dolls type singer songwriter stuff. Then one night I decided to 'get them out of The Replacements way' and digest their discography in one night. Now they're in my top 10 bands of all time. I'm 34 now, so I was too young to see/hear them, and they just eluded my tastebuds until I guess I had enough of a pallet.

I just skimmed through these The Fall albums, in order... Now I'm kind of excited.

Plus at this price, I can just recoup most of the cost if I can't get into it!

Thank you.

Music Shit / Re: Why does everybody shit on Burger
« on: August 11, 2017, 05:17:19 PM »
I think some new asshole posted without knowing about child boards.

Also a lot (most?) of burger stuff isn't even punk - simply pop or rock, etc.

thanks.

Well someone already grabbed the one I was interested in.

Whatever happened to that Hozac band Spider? That EP they had with Sweepin the Ruins, Boozetown, Witchcookie... it had 3 really great songs and a few that I didn't care for.

Did they ever do an LP? Other bands?

Ok new guy question here. What's a set sale?

Does this mean you're only selling them as a set, meaning the whole package? Like, if I only want that Pussy Galore, I'd have to buy the whole set? If not, I'm confused to what makes this a 'set sale' vs a guy listing records available for sale.

Sorry!

So I did take the advice and look up threads about Burger. At first all I saw was burger bashing with little context. Then I found it. Several posters had major problems with the way Burger contacted bands that had a killer record elsewhere, and asked to do the tape version. Some of these posters stated that they ran labels.

So, poaching the talent pool seems genuinely shady. This explains why there's some overlap with 'accepted' (termbo approved) labels.

Saw the Burglar Records parody thread.

So I dig a little deeper. I see that I'm not alone in asking this sort of question (apologies for the repeated thread). I see that people seemed to argue similarly to me about still liking certain releases (naming off similar ones).

Then I hit the posts from Burger Records (or someone posting on their behalf). There seems to be a point before Burger Records 'lost all their cool points', but you can see the way he defends his actions. He claimed that they debuted 200 artists on vinyl, and that the bands that left other labels did so because they 'come to Burger for their hard work' (paraphrase). To be painting all 200 bands or however many with such broad strokes, assigning the same self-serving 'reason' for absconding to Burger...

It's weird.

tl;dr: I didn't use the search. Noob gonna noob.
