I agree. I believe the plan is to wait at least a year before adding a newer issue to the archive.

For those looking for updates: we just put our new website online. By the end of the Spring we will have the first part of the Archive Project up, which is free, searchable PDFs of almost every issue MRR has ever put out. Not sure when exactly that will be done though.

Turbo! is the disembodied, freewheeling spirit of Bruce Roehrs.

IIRC the first phase of it will be posted online when we post the new website. Should be soon.

Thanks! Following Grace is going to be extremely difficult, given that she may be the best coord the mag has had since Tim himself.

Music Shit / MRR is looking for Tim Yohannan stories + photos
« on: November 28, 2017, 09:14:01 AM »
Hi there,
We haven't really met, as I am a longtime lurker/first time (OK, not first time) poster, but I'm Joan and I am Grace's replacement at Maximum Rocknroll.

Maybe some of you saw the post that we made on Facebook or Twitter...The 20th anniversary of Tim Yohannan's death is in April, and to honor his legacy, we would like to run stories and photos about him. As you know, Tim Yo was a divisive figure, and we understand that not all stories about him will be the most glowing. Feel free to send them in anyway!

We need the stories and photos by February 5th. Please email them to our email address: mrr -at- maximumrocknroll(dot)com.

oh my god. there are so many kids who are into punk, you just don't know them because YOU GOT OLD

Yeah? yeah?? Well FUCK...you will get old too...

My only intro into punk and whatever around here was a young kid who was doing standup comedy in English...started talking and he mentions Terence Mckenna! but he moved to Austria recently...

What is MRR circulation at these days?? Kerrang??

Comparing MRR to Kerrang is honestly hilarious

I really loved that most recent PISS single, but I'm a sucker for so much "raw" hardcore or whatever.

Demo Tape / MYAKKA - Bored on the Fourth of July. Florida hardcore
« on: October 20, 2017, 08:40:43 PM »
We wrote these songs while I was applying to be content coordinator at MRR, and recorded them not too long before I moved out of Tallahassee to San Francisco. Enjoy if you want to, or don't. I was listening to tons of Poison Idea and Husker Du at the time, but it probably doesn't really show  on these recordings.

Hands down my favorite metal release of the year is the debut album from Satan's Hallow. It's trad metal, but it fucking RIPS. Every song is powerful and has solid ass riffs. Great clean vocals too.

Other greats from this year:
The Ominous Circle
Tomb Mold
Loss
Death Worship

I came here to second Mickey Newbury and Chris Darrow, both of which (despite producing great works for others) are incredibly underappreciated. Newbury is best known as the author of "Just Dropped In (To See What Condition My Condition Is In)" for First Edition; Darrow for playing in Kaleidoscope (from LA) and Nitty Gritty Dirt Band. Drag City has issued the key works from both of them.
