your daughter is wack

You are a fucking idiot.

Other than that, today I'm listening to Madonna, Taylor Swift and U.S Girls.

On that tip (kinda), I've been listening to these albums a ton (along with US Girls latest). My daughter is getting into pop music, so I've been kinda following her down that rabbit hole while trying to suggest things that I can stand to hear or at least don't find offensive.

Grimes - Visions
Sophie - Product
M.I.A. - Arular

10-96 - "Warning: This Band Is... / Secret (History Of) Comp." cassette

Legendary mixtape that I believe was sold on their '89 tour, it collects recordings that date back to '83. Pretty shit-fi sound quality, but it's got songs that are not available elsewhere, some of which are pretty cool, some versions of their well known songs (some of which have multiple vinyl release already) are played a bit differently (generally a little sloppier and a tad slower than their better known versions). Glad to own it, and I want to share it with friends, but I don't know that it will get as much listens as the rest of their discography does at my house.

Charlambolage - Charlambolage LP

All lady post-punk band from Berlin featuring a member of Ton Steine Scherben. Rumor has it that the band was put together by women that were involved in the Scherben collective, which if you're unfamiliar was half Dial House/half MC5 (though instead of the White Panther Party there were RAF connections.) It's a great, weird and rare record self-released by the Scherben collective.  Maybe not to everyone's taste, but I was happy to finally find a copy in trade after having been on the lookout for a decade. Still looking for copies of the first two Ton Steine Scherben records as well, though their second album is higher on my want list.

Luna - Nestvarne Stvari  LP

Another long term want that I was finally able to score after flipping what is undoubtably the rarest record I've ever owned and maybe will ever own. When it comes to coldwave/goth/whatever, it doesn't really get much better than this album which rates up against or better than any of the best work of Siouxie or Xmal Deutschland or anything that came out of the LA death rock scene. Very highly deserving of a reissue.

Dobri Isak - Mi Plačemo Iza Tamnih Naočara LP

Everything I used to describe the above record also applies to this reissue of the band's sole demo. The recording on this one is a lot more raw than the above, which is neither here nor there for me, but may appeal more to some listeners or be more of a turn-off for others.

I just sold an expensive record to someone in Germany. I was kind of worried about selling something this high value, especially to someone overseas, as it seems like a lot of risk given what I've heard about paypal's policies towards sellers. I sent the record the day the dude ordered, and he asked for it to be insured, which, no shit, I would not have sent something that expensive overseas to someone I don't know personally without insuring it. I understand this sucks for the foreign buyer as they will get hit with customs, but that's really got nothing to do with me. Sure enough, I've gotten a message from the buyer complaining that the record is stuck in customs and wants to know what I declared as the value and let me know that they charge %20 customs on the value, with a frowny ascii face included.

Given that they asked for it to be insured, and that I insured it, would you even bother responding to this person? Seems like there is no real win for me there and that responding with reason and logic could offend the person, which is something I want to avoid given the dollar amount on the line.

according to google, Rollins is 5?9? but Danzig is 5?3?, which is a whole inch shorter than Dio.

GG Allin: All In The Family (Showtime)

I expected some entertainment value from this, but not much else. My expectations; however; were pretty greatly exceeded. I thought this was an incredibly well done documentary and it really helps provide some insight into GG and his life and work. I don't think anyone who would want to watch this would learn anything particularly new, but when some of the information is presented by his mother, for example, instead of out of his own mouth, it provides a very different context, and a humanizing experience...  Not gonna lie, the movie made me tear up a little.

Tonight my guest is DJ Max Caldwell of Primitive Pleasures and he's doing a set of all lesser known private private press and outsider rock from Ohio.

He put photos of the record covers from his set up on his instagram here:

Wanted to also mention The Complete Capitol Punishment: 1980-1984 book. It's got all the issues of this Lincoln fanzine that covered a lot of the same music as zines like The Offense (i.e. UK-centric), but it's a little more amateurish in it's layout, but it's also a lot more anarchic and anti-authoritarian, which I dig. It's also got contemporary coverage of Termbo-centric stuff like The Better Beatles.

Still interested in learning about any other books like this that colle4ct regional punk/new wave zines from back in the day.

I'd really love to see a book or online collection of Coolest Retard (Chicago), and Sick Teen (Green Bay).

Yup, Chronophage LP is fuckin' GREAT.  Comes across well live too.

Yeah, digging this one for sure. Haven't been buying much contemporary music for a while, but might have to go out of my way for this one.

It is collectively run, so why not find a collection of people who want to keep it going?

Easier said than done (I mean, I?m sure everyone would rather have it in print, ideally.) Bay Area housing market also undoubtably doesn?t help the situation. An extra dollar an issue? I dunno bout where you are but a lot of young punks around here thought five bucks was too much to pay for a touring band at least as of a few years back.

Super depressing development, rendered even more so thanks to the aforementioned April Fools prank. Whatever your feelings on the content, it?s an institution and these developments illustrate the potential impermenance of the whole thing. What plans are in place to ensure the long term integrity of the record collection, for example?

Don?t get me wrong, I get it, it?s volunteer run, this was obviously a collective decision. It?s still something I find very disheartening.

Thanks for the tip on "whisper and SHOUT". I watched it last night. It was awesome.

Guessing the filmmakers had seen "Another State of Mind" and the girls sunbathing were an homage to the goth chick that's a "really well sculpted woman" or whatever the hell she says.  :o

I think it?s because naturalism is important part of the culture of East Germany.
