Pop Punk / Re: Drunks with Guns?
« on: August 29, 2018, 08:30:54 PM »
OK, this is a rant directed at nobody in particular, but with mainly people like that Kevin guy in mind.

Aren't you giving the nazis a strategic advantage by aligning everything like this with full-blown nazism? Wouldn't it be better to just assume they're from the same stock as you and your friends and say it's a shit band, turn your nose up, do something better?

Grab em by the shirt and say, "TELL ME YOU'RE A FUCKING NAZI, NAZIS FUCKING EVERYWHERE, IT'S WAR" and what do you know, it must be kind of normal to be one if there's so many. You motivate music scene brats to take their politics seriously because once you've stuck your toe over that nazi line, you're cut off from the left-affiliated part of society most suited to you and um, people will talk behind your back and threaten to bash you randomly.

If you wanted to bash someone for being a mysogynist lech you'd bash a looooong fucking list of music scene brats. Probably some of your friends. The tipping thing is hilarious as well, not being from the US.

Don't get me wrong, Kevin, I did think you were cool when I read you punched the sieg heil guy and your posts seemed a lot more on-point than that rambling what's-their-name, something something social context excuses free speech etc. one. Have to admit though, from what I skimmed of his post, is that he's a bit more right than you even though he does not get the point of exactly how SHIT a band called 'white pride' is and, maybe Sid Viceious etc. was shit too, and, the context of being a sheltered white teenager in a small town can by association & socialisation make you a sheltered little bitch in the grand scheme of things. That's what I mean in saying we're all a bit shit - us who have to play the nazi-or-not game for music genres we like, because we're all so damn similar? What's-their-name is just too polite and considerate of people's complexity and too reverent of the list of punk saints to jump to the conclusion that anyone is shit. Some of my friends are shit, I LOVE and HATE them at the same time. So I won't be put on the back foot if someone comes out to get them.

And you know who suffers most when there's violence towards anybody is women, kids, bystanders, and yes - minorities who take the worst of climates of fear. Even if someone deserved to be bashed. You're not Nazis, but you're pretty close if you support this shit.

And yeah sorry, I haven't listened to the bands or anything, just going by the responses they've elicited here. Tell me if I should go listen to them.

Pretty angry that it's usually women that have to keep jerks in line, the moderating influences, carers, peacekeepers. Someday women & queers & token POC might lose it and conspire something.

First thing I thought here actually was, "This thread makes me wonder what punk and hardcore music is even for." Mainly angsty, unaware white dudes making such incoherent statements that it occurs to everybody that we need an argument about who is the worst of them...

Sex Tourists s/t LP. Probably my favourite album of the decade at least. You can't try to make an album like this. Sounds like all the dead people in Sydney got behind it and spiritually guided them and made half broken equipment float into their hands from all over the city and world, and got the Holy Spirit to whisper the reasons why they are dead, and the sorts of things they remember. Something like that.

i love how verdicardi thinks he's one of the "good" posters

What's that meant to mean?

you should be friends with suitor

alright ill have a little stalk of their posts, curious why you'd say that.

Ever listen to new post-punk/coldwave or whatever bullshit genre label bands when you're down and out? They all feel fake and like such a ripoff. They don't make you feel better. They just make you like everything sucks and not as good as the past. Not a good way of explaining it. In Letter Form, etc. I always try to find new stuff that's interesting and exciting (to me) but its hard to find and you check punk blogs or whatever and it's either a repeat of the past or new bands that aren't that good but somewhat reminiscent of the past and I don't know why people that are supposed to be into punk are into that type of shit when I expect them to have better taste and know they could do better on recommendations. I'm guilty as well.

prospective friend noted.

Keep walking -- nothing philosophical to see here!

that's kinda funny actually

May's well be living under communism. Wear the same clothes most days, favourite people have a similar aesthetic to these guys, work some humble job and hang out and make music. Most things become ugly/plain with commercial priorities. And we're growing basil to eat with pasta. Not making any grand philosophical, political statements here. Just that these people have what I like.

Enter the Mirror by Les Rallizes Denudes should be on an 80s equivalent to Zabriskie Point, set in Britain or something, instead of Pink Floyd when the display/holiday house explodes.

What I am listening to is Wake Up Sleeper by Assetstripper.

https://soundcloud.com/spiderturkey-zsounsd/assetstripper-wake-up-sleeper

I am the sleeper, I guess. But sort of smugly self-aware and wary of possibilities of more important stuff than fun in the sun, like the possibility of nuclear annihilation, war, economic collapse, terrorism, lapsing into a boring, self-absorbed, complacent existence where I don't have any dignity but somehow manage to be proud of my body and work by performing expected duties to make it attractive to people with capital and thus control over most of my waking actions and thoughts to do with work and, yeah this song makes me feel a little bit grotty on the inside because i feel a bit of a smug downer but you know, i'm not DOING anything, I'm just relaxing here, you know. Sick song anyhow. It sounds too cool to be fooled.

Non-Music Shit / Where are you all from?

Hello everyone.

Feels like a timewarp. Noticed a user here called SouthportRocker, where I used to live! Bands and people in them were a distant fantasy. Funnily, I listened to music way less, the more shows I went to and the more musicians I hung out with once I moved to Brisbane. Seems like my brain's more back to normal now though, hanging out on the internet and listening to music alone while procrastinating uni assignments.

So where are you all from? Are you loner underground music fans in lonely cities, staying home gazing through the internet, or are most of you involved in IRL music shit? Also, did any of you write for Negative Guest List back in the day?

Either way, good to see an old fashioned forum still alive. Better than the face book.
