OK, this is a rant directed at nobody in particular, but with mainly people like that Kevin guy in mind.
Aren't you giving the nazis a strategic advantage by aligning everything like this with full-blown nazism? Wouldn't it be better to just assume they're from the same stock as you and your friends and say it's a shit band, turn your nose up, do something better?
Grab em by the shirt and say, "TELL ME YOU'RE A FUCKING NAZI, NAZIS FUCKING EVERYWHERE, IT'S WAR" and what do you know, it must be kind of normal to be one if there's so many. You motivate music scene brats to take their politics seriously because once you've stuck your toe over that nazi line, you're cut off from the left-affiliated part of society most suited to you and um, people will talk behind your back and threaten to bash you randomly.
If you wanted to bash someone for being a mysogynist lech you'd bash a looooong fucking list of music scene brats. Probably some of your friends. The tipping thing is hilarious as well, not being from the US.
Don't get me wrong, Kevin, I did think you were cool when I read you punched the sieg heil guy and your posts seemed a lot more on-point than that rambling what's-their-name, something something social context excuses free speech etc. one. Have to admit though, from what I skimmed of his post, is that he's a bit more right than you even though he does not get the point of exactly how SHIT a band called 'white pride' is and, maybe Sid Viceious etc. was shit too, and, the context of being a sheltered white teenager in a small town can by association & socialisation make you a sheltered little bitch in the grand scheme of things. That's what I mean in saying we're all a bit shit - us who have to play the nazi-or-not game for music genres we like, because we're all so damn similar? What's-their-name is just too polite and considerate of people's complexity and too reverent of the list of punk saints to jump to the conclusion that anyone is shit. Some of my friends are shit, I LOVE and HATE them at the same time. So I won't be put on the back foot if someone comes out to get them.
And you know who suffers most when there's violence towards anybody is women, kids, bystanders, and yes - minorities who take the worst of climates of fear. Even if someone deserved to be bashed. You're not Nazis, but you're pretty close if you support this shit.
And yeah sorry, I haven't listened to the bands or anything, just going by the responses they've elicited here. Tell me if I should go listen to them.
Pretty angry that it's usually women that have to keep jerks in line, the moderating influences, carers, peacekeepers. Someday women & queers & token POC might lose it and conspire something.
First thing I thought here actually was, "This thread makes me wonder what punk and hardcore music is even for." Mainly angsty, unaware white dudes making such incoherent statements that it occurs to everybody that we need an argument about who is the worst of them...
