Now Daylight Robbery, that is a horrible band.  And I'll stand by that.

DUDE.  There's no fuckin way DR is anything close to horrible--I specifically invited em up to MKE to play this Saturday due to them being one of the very, very, very few Chicago bands I actually like.  Crazy.  You are now on the guest list for a basement show--see ya Saturday.

I own 9 vinyl copies of URIAH HEEP-'Look At Yourself', 5 of which are now an art installation on my living room wall.  Ya know that movie 'Conspiracy Theory' where Mel Gibson's character is compelled to buy a copy of 'Catcher in the Rye' all the time?  Well insert the aforementioned lp and there ya go.  I feel that this is sane compared to anyone collecting Agathocles so I don't feel too bad.

White Night played a killer bedroom show on Xmas night in MKE--self-fulfilling prophecy I'd say.  Then they flipped their van in the snow on the way back to Cali.  Bummer.  They also set up a great show for us at their house in Fullerton that the cops stopped halfway through the first band--entire show was promptly moved to Anaheim to a house that one of them had just been evicted from--no cops showed despite loud-as-fuck rockin in the garage and complete destruction from within of the residence.  I think we used Carls Jrs as a unit of distance measurement in Orange County.

Venus Records, St Marks Place circa '92--totally bummed I couldn't afford the $50 Eater lp on the wall, I half-heartedly flip through the measly 7" box and pull a MAD--Fried Egg 7" for $5.  I figure half the people in that neighborhood probably still had a copy at home, right?

Some hole-in-the-wall, San Diego circa '93--go through the whole store (which was pretty damn small), found nothing but decided to see what the 'rockabilly' section held just to close it out--three Stray Cats lps and GEARS--Rockin At Ground Zero for $2.

Some other hole-in-the-wall, SD circa '93--haggled over the $30 asking price for EYES--TAQN 7" since they had two copies on the wall but didn't have to haggle over the $4 tag on a first press clear copy of 'Pick Your King'.

Yet another hole-in-the-wall, SD circa '94--some tiny place that was mostly all about cds at this point but bothered to pull the best stuff of their dwindling vinyl selection to put on the wall--NUNS--Decadent Jew & MIDDLE CLASS--Out Of Vogue...$5 each.

Man, talk about wishing I knew then what I knew now, I wonder what I passed up back then in SD just cuz I didn't know what the fuck it was...

I like Mantooth

His column a couple years back about wanting to start a band called Guitar Center was the first LOL thing I'd read in MRR since Norb was banished.  And there always seemed to be a lot of Warkrime dissing but when they played here they were cool and broke into the city pool for a midnight swim with us despite Dan's best attempts to keep them locked in his house talking about records.  If they were from Milwaukee there would never have been any uproar--nice of them to make Bay Area PC rear it's wizened grey head once again while they existed.

Music Shit / Re: proficiency vs. non-proficiency

"Anyone can do it" is both the best and worst thing about punk rock.  Most bands are competent enough to demonstrate that they possess a general lack of musical ideas or creativity.  Saw Nobunny this weekend and it merely reaffirmed this fact.  Oh that's right, he wears a mask--I take back everything I just said.  You people are not Chuck Berry.  You're not The Ramones.  You're not Greg Cartwright.  Do something else.  Please.

Stopped in Goodwill tonight and ALMOST bought one of those early 90's Radio Shack dual-cassette karaoke machines--everything seemed to work but after thinking about it I'm not sure when I'd use it.  $6.99.  Somebody had also dumped a dozen or so 20-year-old minor league baseball caps, unused, tags from 1989 still on em.  Toledo Mudhens was the only one with a full team name, the rest were mostly crazy animal logos, I've got no fucking idea of any of the teams but I was nearly compelled to buy them all at $2.99 each just to research them.

my friend's old band had a song about being in love with layla... i sent it to her and her response in its entirety was "intense."

Her review of our first 7" was basically "I should like this but I don't and I don't know why."  Uh, aren't you supposed to at least figure out why, THEN write the review?  Then I found out she was British so I sent her an email about how she was probably suffering from an eggnog deficiency and she should down some of that sweet dairy nectar and then she might better understand where we were coming from.  No reply.
