Re: SSR. As I said, the concern, if at all real, is nothing new. Concerning glut, I said similar, but not the same. On this board, which favors vinyl, the issue isn't as apparent as with the CDR scene, which I don't participate in. I might have been beating a dead horse but I think I've sensed some new tendrils of strangeness among these posts. I was addressing Sarim's point about the rapidity of some band's releases and in his experience of letting the song and band develop the work. If the recording is a rough sketch, an outline, or an unrefined early take on a song, that sounds like the definition of a demo to me. Not that demos can't be better than more polished or later versions of the same songs. But if a band is hip or hot, some people will put out anything a band gives them. I appreciate your effort not to do this, as described in your post about your comps to Johan. But slapping out any boombox recording that comes someone's way still happens. I like a lot of crud-fi stuff but when 7"s cost over six bucks and it's obvious no expense was taken at all to get the sounds, how does that convert? As I also said, I'm not immune to the possible scenarios that I described, so I have probably dipped into collector/complete-ist idiocy now and then. Maybe it's just a glut of hard-to-find must-haves? I bought a fuck-ton of records in the 90's, I buy a fuck-ton now (I own 6 or 7 of the 15 in your review pile), just let me wring my hands a little, ok? XO, Phil
Re: j dumm dumm. I guess I should have put those terms in quotes. They were meant to signify a certain lameness. Sorry I didn't use the appropriate lexicon. There are good and bad reasons to put out limited releases, I was speaking to the willfully obscure. Hey wanna buy one of my solo LP's? I put it out in an edition of 300 with hand made covers in '97. I still have some sitting in a box! Ha! I guess I overestimated! I guess it just goes to show..... Just my opinion...... gonna go fuck off and pre-order the Blank Dogs. Ha! Ha! Cheers, Phil
