Music Shit / Re: What is everybody jammin' to? Part III
« on: December 16, 2008, 08:37:49 PM »
Re: Sarim. I fear that something similar to a repeat of the early nineties 7" glut is what's happening. Insta-hype on this here message board, a lot of willfully obscure releases (tiny pressings),  a bunch of new vanity labels, hip sounds as opposed to songs, hotter competition with new ears and wallets, some sycophantic moves, a dilution in discernment.......etc. I'm not immune to this stuff, but maybe there's a growing environment that's providing fertile ground for inferior records. It's nothing new, just maybe blooming here right now.

Took weeks after the supposed date, but it came. emails were responded to promptly. Not sure public griping is helpful unless being repeatedly ignored is the case.

Music Shit / Re: good christmas comps?

"Sock It To Me Santa" by the Lazy Cowgirls rules! I'd like to Hear the Bob Seger version someday too. That Jon Spencer 7" isn't too hot. Red Red Meat covered "Welcome Christmas" from the Peanuts Christmas special on a Sub Pop 7". "Jesus Christ", by Big Star is a great Christmas tune. I have a great Alcoholics Unanimous  7" w/ "Santa Claus DWI" on it. Hickoids "We've Got the Egg Nog if You've Got the Whiskey" is ok. Celibate Rifles "Merry Christmas Blues". Sonic Boom covering The Sonics "Santa Claus" on a split 7"? The Figgs have a good Christmas 7" where they do a great "Father Christmas" by the Kinks and 2 originals. NRBQ have a decent Christmas album as well. These all sit in a pile until a play them once a year at my radio show. I might be too lazy to dig them out this year though.

DEFINITELY HOT! Naked in "Death Race 2000" too! Her book is a good nasty read and I just saw some Warhol doc. on TV where she talks about hating Pop Art.

Music Shit / Re: Thrift Score
« on: December 09, 2008, 09:37:28 PM »
Not a thrift store, but last week as I was walking to the local coffee shop I saw a flyer for an estate sale. I ignored it until I saw the flyer again, in the coffee shop. It listed records as one of the items for sale. It was in walking distance so I headed over. Turns out it was someone I knew, who's mother had died a while back and they were selling the house. I said, "Um, sorry about your mom. Do you have some records for sale?". She pulled out a box of only like 30 records and told me she wanted to go through them first; never a good sign. I told her I'd let her look at the ones I wanted. The records looked in pretty crappy shape but there was a Kinks Lola vs. the Powerman, cruddy shaped Led Zep and Beatles, which she of course wanted. Getting to the point I pulled out the Eddie Hazel "Games Dames and Guitar Thangs" in pretty mint shape. Of course she didn't want it. Yay for me! Got Jolliver Arkansaw on Bell and John Coltrane's "Kulu Se Mama" too. 3 bucks total and all keepers which I did not have.

Music Shit / Re: Best underground label/mailorder of 2008
« on: December 03, 2008, 08:19:56 PM »
While Fusetron carries tons of cool shit, they never take down listing when they are sold out of them. I mean months after the item is gone. You get all psyched to score and after having to email about it's availability (another negative) you get the sorry-we-are-out email. You are left shivering and jonesing with dick in hand.

Music Shit / Re: Record collector doom.

Those drawings are awesome and totally true! I definitely have had multiple dreams about scoring cool records that don't exist. Once I had one about robbing a record store! Mike (MT) Kinney (RIP), of Osmotic Tongue Pressure mag, told me a story about being drunk and breaking in to a record store and nabbing a stack of Dylan or something . Fantasy is reality!

Music Shit / Re: The Muslims change name to The Soft Pack

They shoulda just changed it to the Ex-Muslims, or The Muslins ( a kind of cotton fabric). I could see the name change being recommended by advancers of careers, but I could also see some jihadist scare tactics too. The name wasn't offensive to sane people but...

This isn't a joke? Well at least that fucking retard will get painful nodes on his vocal cords, and hopefully some brothers will beat the fuck out of these corny auto-tuned trend-bots and steal their daddy's cars.

Non-Music Shit / Re: Tea!
« on: November 23, 2008, 01:14:51 PM »
I don't drink coffee, but I drink tea every day, usually Earl Grey Green tea from the local coffee shop. I don't like most green teas, but I like this. Also Aislaby Ceylon, English Breakfast (like it better than Irish, even though I am). When I'm illin' they have a tea called Throat Tamer, works well, but it sounds like some sick porn site! Sometimes I drink something called Iron Goddess of Mercy, which is a white tea and is similar to a tea I had at some fancy tea place in Boston that had been picked be monkeys! Tend to agree with Kevin about a lot of herbal junk that gets called tea. Not Tea!

Carbonas got really good AFTER a year! It was after their first LP when they peaked with those two 7"s!

I guess I better dig that Humans 7" out of the stacks and give it a listen! I thought I gave it a needle drop test after I bought it blind and wasn't impressed, but that makes sense given the description here.

Non-Music Shit / Re: thugs in skirts
« on: November 20, 2008, 09:50:25 PM »
My brother records some thug types in Philly and this one guy was definitely telling him that he wished he could wear some non-huge shirts but that shit wouldn't fly back in the ghetto. Somebody posted a vid somewhere on here of some NY hipster hip hop shit called Ninja Sonic. The song was called "Tight Pants Wearing Motherfucker" or something like that. Google that and a bunch of shit pops up. But those Ninja Sonic dude's were like black skater type's telling the thugs to fuck off. Not to the thugs faces of course. Williamsburg was lapping it up though. Can't say I hated it or the sentiment either. Same kinda youth in that horrible movie "Wassup Rockers", just latino, not black.
