Mr. BD you don't have to be apologetic for anything - I think it's understood why it's done.

Why don't bands who don't like that sort of thing do more pressings, or release more copies?  I think some bands are insincere in complaining about their stuff selling for so much and getting shafted on $ when there are only a few hundred pressings, or super cool limited versions.  I'm not saying Blank Dogs guy or Kevin are in this category.  Limited pressings often influence hype/buzz (even in the "underground") which then leads to more sales of future releeases and attendance at shows, no?  Maybe I'm wrong, but I think it's more complex then the whole us poor artists are getting slighted because people don't care about the music, just the value.

And, it is tacky to troll message boards and get on mailing lists to get the limited pressings to make a quick profit.  But shit, there are way worse qualities in a person.

yeah, we'd love to repress the Spider single but they want it be a 12" EP next time it's released

That's a great idea.  Try to talk them into making it a maxi-single with an extended or "all night" version of "Witch Cookie".  Seriuosly.

Does anyone have the LPD box in stock in the States?  It seems the usual mailorders don't have them and likely won't get anymore.

I've been on the fence on throwing down the cash on this one.  Still am sort of.  I'm sure it is packaged great, but I haven't read any reviews of the content that really make me want to get it for $100.  And I'm a long time LPD fan.

It's pretty good.  Some of it is just interesting.  Great packaging as you'd expect from VOD.  I listen to other VOD stuff a lot more - lately it's Ptose (so damn great) and Hermann Kopp.  I'm saving my xmas gift cards up to cash em in and get the LPD Box.

I'd imagine big tobacco looks at potential lawsuits like these as investments to raise prices instead of having to do it the hard way by increasing demand.   The ad execs who came out with this campaign will probably all get raises instead of the axe.

Damn, I wish I'd gotten in on this topic earlier, and I don't have the patience to read through the whole thing.  But in response to this, I find it very difficult to believe RJR and the advertising co. didn't expect the future legal expenses and penalties into thier costs.  Unfortunately, if they've stopped the campaign it's financially hardly worth it for a band to litigate the issue.  On principle is a different story however, and it shouldn't be hard to get a competent lawyer to represent a band or label since there's a good chance attorney's fees will be paid by RJR and the advertising co.

Come into my work.  I hear that song three or four times each night.  Then it's back to the classics, my friend -- Alice in Chains, that one Flaming Lips song (something about "Yoshimi") and "Everybody Must Get Stoned" all round out the kickass rock block.

Weren't you the guy asking about being a bartender a while back?  If I were to bartend in a place that plays that shiite I'd slit my throat, or one of my patron's, or the jukebox.  One of the best things I liked about bartending was playing the music I wanted to play.

As for Winehouse, I heard the rehab song on the radio and it was great.  The rest of the album was not memorable for me.  At times sort of a cool sound, and some interesting lyrics, but lacking something.  Maybe soul, or passion.

How's the LPD box?  Worth the $100 price?

Colon's "El Malo" is pretty great, though not as great the The Hustler.  I also like the Lebron Bros "psychedelic goes latin", but it's really not psychedelic.  Tito Puente's 60s stuff is worth a listen as well.

What's the the LPD box like?  I think I've only heard one of the tapes it's reissues.  And Cultural Amnesia?  Who has these in the States?

Non-Music Shit / Re: What was your most fucked up Xmas?
« on: November 29, 2007, 05:00:39 PM »
I've noticed a common trend over the years.  Punkers seem to have experienced crappy xmas', and childhoods for that matter.  I'm no psycologist, or sociologist, but I've noticed my punk rock friends (term used loosely of course), tend to have had crappy childhoods with pretty fucked up parents, or parents who were really cool and laid back.  Nothing in between.  As for me, I'm squarely in the fucked up parents category, ah and a punk rocker, loosely definded of course.

Music Shit / Re: PINE HILL HAINTS
« on: November 16, 2007, 03:07:10 PM »
I've only seen them live, four or five years ago at my local watering hole here in South Seattle.  No stage, just set up on the floor amidst the tables.  The place was packed with neighborhood folks with diverse music tastes and had never heard of the Pine Hill Haints, including me.  Pine Hill Haints were GREAT.  Everyone was into the music and having fun.  It was one of those seemingly normal evenings that unexpectedly turned out to be fun and memorable.  After they played the band hung out and shot the shit.  I have nothing to say but good things about them all around.
