Music Shit / Re: Another Metal Thread.........Fall 2012

You're not the first person to recommend High Spirits.  I've listened on youtube and such, but I haven't made the purchase.  One of those bands that sound okay, and might be a grower, but something about it doesn't do it for me.  I've heard a few people say High Spirits were very good live, and always prefaced with "surprisingly!".

Nice!  I dig that first In Solitude record, good stuff.  It's a trip that Witchcraft's first record is 10 years old now......... I slept on that Satan's Satyrs record, now of course it's expensive.

I kinda wish someone in the States would carry this label's records - http://www.youtube.com/user/HFR0HFR/videos?view=0

Music Shit / Another Metal Thread.........Fall 2012
« on: October 19, 2012, 08:29:43 AM »
I feel not up to date on decent, recent metal.  There is soooooooooo much crap to wade through, Chips and Beer helps a bit.  Any suggestions out there on recent good stuff?

I've been shamelessly listening to this "wimpy" metal record non-stop for the last year and a half or so.   http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lWvO_Xjpi7I&feature=related  No, Noctum is not black/death/or extreme but I love it.  Also been stuck on Hellhammer/CF and Death Breath for a long while.

You should go in to the interview with your ACLS stuff down, if it's not already.  Maybe use a skills prep, like this one, http://www.skillstat.com/tools . Talk about how you're really interested in mastering reading rhythms and your ACLS skills in general.

Not sure if I'm going to throw down the cash, but I'm kinda looking forward to these Art Pepper releases, despite the goofy, but kinda cool, packaging and such.  http://omnivorerecordings.com/artists/art-pepper/

My older brother was a rocker and metalhead with pretty good taste in music and cranked High and Dry daily when I was 12 or so.  I loved it, and On Through the Night, two awesome records.  But, something changed when Pyromania came out, it's like some of the edge to their tunes disappeared.  For example, High and Dry was re-released, after Pyromania went crazy, to include Bringin on the Heartbreak remastered with those cheesy 80s synths added.  Don't get me wrong, I like cheesy 80s synths, just generally not in my metal.  And back then, if there wasn't an edge to the tunes, I kind of lost interest.  And on top of that, every jock who fucked with us punkers loved Pyromania which at the time further soured my DL liking.  I do however have fond memories of hanging out smoking cigarettes and making out with girls while listening to Def Leppard, even Pyromania.  Definitely good teenage make out music.

BTW, I have an extra High and Dry lp if anyone is interested.  It's the reissued version with the original Bringin on the Heartbreak AND the remastered version with synth.  PM if interested, I dunno $6 postage paid?

Are you into outdoorsey stuff like State/National Parks? Jay Day Fossil beds is pretty awesome - it's in the eastern part of Oregon. Also if you end up in the southern Oregon region, Lava Beds National Monument is one of my favorite places. They have Lava Tubes/caves there.

Yeah, Lava Beds is AWESOME, along with nearby Glass Mountain - a mountain made of obsidian.

I always recommend thrifting in Tacoma.  Occasionally you'll find nothing, but overall my thrifting trips to Tacoma are pretty decent.  I've found unbelievably cool xian records in Tacoma thrift shops the last couple of years.  Tacoma Goodwills and Salvation Armys have been good for records and books.

If you're in Tacoma and heading to Seattle, a cool detour is to leave I-5 and take the Ruston/Point Defiance ferry boat to the south end of Vashon Island, then head north and check out the island, eventually taking the Vashon north end ferry boat to Seattle.  There are some great beaches on Vashon, an okay record store, lots of nice scenery, and good restaurants.  It's like $20 to get on to Vashon, but you don't pay when taking the boat off.  It's a nice way to see part of Puget Sound which in general is really great.

Have fun.  I love road trips.

I really like "Process Praise", great stuff.  Looking forward to seeing them in Seattle.

Bosporus Bridges: A Wide Selection of Turkish Jazz & Funk 1968-1978 LP - finally got this on vinyl, one of my favorite comps ever.

Yeah, that is a damn great record.

Hey, are there any of these available out there still?

I pre-ordered one from FD, and then passed on several from other distros, but FD got shorted, and I was out of town when the few he had went up for sale.

Non-Music Shit / Re: Bad Wedding Behavior
« on: July 18, 2012, 10:29:46 PM »
Nothing to do with a wedding, but my girl looks in other womens' vaginas and finds odd, old stuff regularly -  it is not uncommon for a woman to come into the emergency room at the county hospital (where my girl works) complaining that her "crotch stinks", or that it is "nasty down there", or that it, "feels weird".  My girls says, okay, let's have a look, looks in the woman's vagina, and pulls out an old tampon (or two), or an old condom (or two), or whatever.  I don't know why I find that so funny, but it reminds me of the never ending stream of clowns coming out of the car type thing.

It is far more common for women to go to the hospital with odd and nasty stuff in their vaginas than dude's going in with odd things stuck in their ass.  But for some reason most people talk about the guy with stuff in his ass stories.

Back to weddings, but odd stuff stuffed/forgotten in vaginas and buttholes is waaaayyyyy funnier.

Yo CDR,

Thanks for the update.  I understand shit happens.  I'll refuse my refund and call it a fucking great year 1 and great most of year 2.  I don't know anyone involved in CDR but I do not get the impression anything was malicious or anyone was trying to rip people off.  More than anything I'm sorry to hear there'll be no more CDR Singles Club.  Put the $9.75 you were going to refund me towards getting some future CDR release out to the world.

I'll send you a PM with my Paypal info to put on your "No Need to Refund" list.
