Cities / Re: Indianapolis
« on: March 17, 2007, 12:00:48 PM »
Agreed on the Vicious Circle.
The girl and I will be moving to this hated city this summer.
Hopefully I can find a barber college and a fuckin' thing to do.

Indianapolis was really fun during the '90s... Tons of house parties (most with bands), all ages shows, and a pretty awesome scene. Super cheap to live there (never paid more than 150.00/month in rent and lived in huge 3-4 bedroom houses).  I haven't lived there since '99, but I usually return 1x a year for a visit.

The people are pretty damn nice, and there is some stuff to do;

Fountain Square
http://www.fountainsquareindy.com/
An odd mix of cranked out hillbillies (including cranked out hillbilly hookers), vintage stores, art galleries, and a pretty amazing Value Village.

Tufty from the Zero Boys/Toxic Reasons owns a bar here.
Radio Radio

Broadripple Village

This used to be the place where you'd find all the punks hanging out. Not sure where they hang out now.. maybe at home on the internet? Anyway.. it's pretty yuppie these days, but if you need a restaurant job.. this is the spot. I've worked at 4 restaurants, 2 bars, and 1 gas station in this neighborhood. And the Alley Cat dive is in one of the (surprise) alleys.

The Alley Cat Lounge is this weird pick-up/dive in Indianapolis. The floor are sticky, the drinks are cheap and strong, and the place has a weird smell. (packed solid on the weekends, but free pool on Sunday afternoons)

I really miss eating here

The Mexican pizza and spinach salad are fucking great.

Missing Link Records (I think this is still near or in Broadripple?)
This place used to be amazing when it first opened (mid-90s?). I've still found stuff when returning to visit

This is the 'punk bar' and it has lots of shows.

East Side..

This place hosts the bigger all-ages shows.

i dunno... actually the reason i started this thread is im trying to book a show there in june on our tour.  and i'm not sure the girl in the other band will be down for playing a tranny strip club, or whatever the hell it is...   i'd rather play a house party or something rather than a bar anyway.  if you know anyone PM me, that would be rad.

What is the name of your band?
Have you tried contacting Punk Rock Night? http://www.punkrocknight.com/
(These are the people who may or may not have the most contacts for booking smaller shows at places like the Melody Inn)

I'm on a post-sick soup kick.

Today I had: #3. Phở Tái, Bò Viên
Noodle soup with eye round steak and meat balls.

from this place; http://www.phohoa.com/It's pretty good, but since when does Vietnamese food take 30 minutes? Cripes.

30 minutes for Pho? That's insane! They don't make that shit to order. It's sitting around in pots stewing for hours. Try Pho Anh Dao on E. 18th St. @ 3rd Ave. or so (around the corner from the Parkway Theater. That place is the king of East Bay Pho. The extra large bowl is large enough to wash a decent-sized baby.

I'm stuck with lame-ass Berkeley pho options during the week (the place I went to is over on Shattuck). There was enough MSG in that fucker to make my tongue ache.

mike lucas = one of the coolest guys ever. really nice too.

It's not really a party until Mike arrives.

Just like it's not really a scotch tasting without him.
