Music Shit / Re: Stone age eBay KBD wins

My emails don't go back so far on this computer, but for whatever reason, the important ones do get saved deep in the company hard drives.  The oldest win I can find is from 2007, for which I probably paid way too much:

Odds, Bods, Mods & Sods comp LP on ROK Records
paid a bit over $100.00

Kind of a side-bar, but does anyone know the provenance of that Peter Laughner/Lester Bangs goof-off/jam tape allegedly recorded in the CREEM offices?  I downloaded it a couple of years ago and it's hilarious.  Supposedly from '76.  The 'Patti Smith Audition' bit is great!

Most of it is silly wanking and honestly not worth a listen.  The stuff that is worth a listen more than once will be on the Smog Veil release.  It was in fact recorded in the CREEM offices, we have what we believe to be the best generation tape available, but not the original.  In any event, most will be more interested in the stuff we found that's really never been booted or made available by Handsome or through the few releases from the past.  Just got 2 more reels this week from Don Harvey, never heard since the day they were recorded in 1970 or '71.  Hoping for good stuff there as the other Don Harvey/Peter Laughner sessions we have  (Ann Arbor tapes, Mr. Charlie recordings), are some of the best stuff.

Saw 'em twice in Columbus, OH, then moved into Ed's room when he left town headed west.  Here's a recent Mike interview:

I found out about her from a TV Carnage video.  Totally awesome.  There's a treasure-trove of 80s cable access out there for sure.

TV Carnage borrows from Stairway To Stardom, the cable access trainwreck.  See here:

Gotta love the spaz bit at about 45 seconds.  The Stairway To Stardom stuff is all on DVDs, I think from 5 Seconds To Live...

most of the major label stuff here can be found at garage sales and thrifts real cheap.  I have tons, never paid more than a dollar, including numerous Redd Foxx LPs.  My favorite Neil hamburger 7" is his tribute to Princess Di with the complimentary kleenex included.

Well, they're not my favorite Japanese hardcore at that time, maybe F.I.L., Gauze of course, UG Man...

I think Zen and the Art... is one of the 10 best American Hardcore 12"s.

Lots of people can make good records, but few can sell it live.  Erba is one of those who can sell it...probably accounts for the awesome live, slight disappointment when recorded comments here.  Sorta hard to deliver the firecrackers/wrestling thing on a record.  Step Sister with Erba was for me the band that really put it together.  Hold your horses as well for that Face Value retrospective we're doing.

I have to breath a sigh of releaf. I love steely dan so much that I love them that I love them and watch them enough that I climbed trees in columbia  md so I could hear them on tour.

But not as much as I love both Hall and Oates.

Hey Smog Veil guy are you reissuing that Easter Monkeys stuff on a double Disc? I hear there's talk of putting out the Guns demo...that would be rad. What's the word?

Easter Monkeys, Pistol Whip, and Face Value are all planned to be CD/DVD deals.  Face Value is done, just need to get the art together; former Cleveland hardcore kid and now BMX conceptual artist Ryan Humphrey is doing the design.  Easter Monkeys DVD is of them opening for X in Cleveland, I think '84.  Pistol Whip DVD is a '78 performance, and the '88 reunion, plus interviews.

We want to do The Guns release, and have talked to Tom Dark about it.  Originally it was supposed to be released on Grand Theft.  It includes everything.

Tin Huey release is all '74-'76 material.

Expect a couple more surprises prior to the end of the year...
